Sounds like an attempt to compete with FOX NEWS. They might try getting folks who actually care about issues that matter. (Liberals get indignant over all sorts of stupid issues but it's hardly going to get them ratings if they have some blonde wannabe anchor crying that she saw someone eat meat.)
