Brother of Cairo native rescues many victims of Hurricane Katrina
Moberly Monitor ^ | 9/8/05 | Amy Compney

Posted on 09/08/2005 12:08:07 PM PDT by TrebleRebel

Davis said Gator has been busy rescuing as many people as he can; when she spoke to him last, he had taken over 50 people into his home to give them food and shelter. He has pulled almost that many dead bodies out of the water and taken them to I-90, where he told Davis there were about 800 corpses lined up along the road for rescue workers to retrieve. It was 102 degrees when Davis got to speak to her brother and the mosquitoes and flies were eating the survivors alive.

Why did the governor of Miss today say there were "just over 300" dead in the entire state? http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,16541791-1702,00.html?from=rss

By the time they truck them all the way to I-90 they will be really ripe.

Mosquitos and flies eating rescuers alive? A nasty job in best of conditions, and compounded by being eaten alive, just damn.

He probably doesn't have the full count yet. The numbers are probably coming in hourly out in the field, but they may wait for official counts from morgues.

So terribly sad.

That's confirmed dead. There's at least 300 in Biloxi alone.

Yes, it could be that it's confirmed dead. But surely that's, at best, highly misleading. It means that if they bring in 300 bodies, 3 of which are identified, the count will increase by 3, not 300. How long can this go on for. Will the confirmed dead inccrease by 50 a day for the next six months until all are confirmed, at which point the conformed deaths will be 9,000? Or will they admit they have 9,000 bodies and it will take 6 months to identify all of them?

Clearly a slow increase will provide the least shock, but surely the country desrves to know the truth today.

THose are good points and I don't know the real answer. But this I do know: unless you are a "professional" you are not allowed on any body recovery crews. Also, city officials, at least in Pascagoula, are being very tight lipped about the body count there.

In Bay St, Louis they have armed guards surrounding the bodies:

http://www.kansascity.com%2Fmld%2Fkansascity%2Fnews%2Fnation%2F12575557.htm

With the search-team's tales of horrendous findings and the official death toll not matching up, rumors in this disconnected part of the world seem to be spiraling out of control.

A Florida EMA official, brought in to handle media in Hancock, told the Sun Herald the county would not release "any more numbers" until the coroners complete their collecting process.

Several armed guards stand near the front gate of the old Alcan Cable site in Bay St. Louis, where five, 53-foot, refrigerated tractor-trailers sit behind a chain-linked fence.

Where the hell is I-90 in MS? There's Hwy. 90, but no I-90. Also, I have driven up and down Hwy 90 in Biloxi and there's no bodies lying on the side of the road. There are a couple of refrigerated trucks by the funeral home, however. And there's a cool hangout for heros on the beach called Camp Hope.
Here's the rest of my shots from Biloxi

I have not been to, nor want to go over to Bay St. Louis. I doubt you can even get on the beach there. It wasn't easy getting on the beach in Biloxi.

Other Freepers on other threads are talking about thousands of recovered corpses in Miss. Are you hearing the same? What do you think about this?

If this report is to be believed, they are transporting the bodies at least 700 miles to stack them up. (I-90 is at least that far from the Gulf Coast.) So I doubt the veracity of the rest of the report as well.

The story does run in a paper called the Evening Democrat

MS Governor Haley Barbour is not given to hysteria, that's why. He deals in facts only.

Where's the reporters and news teams with the anti-Bush, anti-Barbour, anti-GOP agenda?

Thousands of bodies stacked up, yet not one visual report?

Joe Scarborough would be all over this like stink on sh!t.

So if he has 3,000 bodies and his staff has positively identified just over 300 of them it would be a fact that just over 300 were killed in the hurricane? I don't mean to sound flip, but is this your understanding of what he is saying?
