The raging debate over what happened after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast has provided Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) an opportunity to emerge as a national spokeswoman for the Democratic Party, stirring Republican criticism that she and other Democrats are seeking political gain at a moment of national crisis.
Clinton has long maintained that she is focused solely on serving the interests of her New York constituents. But she was on all three network morning shows yesterday to promote her call for returning the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to independent status, and for creating an independent commission to investigate what went wrong when the storm hit and the levees gave way in New Orleans.

Psst. Hillary. Did you know that your husband's FEMA Director was criticized by Jesse Jackson during Hurricane Floyd because ONE MONTH after the hurricane there were still people who had not been helped?

Oh, and Hillary. Did you know that the Bush administration spent slightly more than your husband on levee/flood control for New Orleans?

Good additions! Thanks!
Yo Hil, did anyone tell you this:
Rather than cede control, Blanco on Saturday morning named James Lee Witt who ran the Federal Emergency Management Agency under Clinton, to RUN RELIEF EFFORTS
Ah, excuse me my dear, but methinks that your man was on the scene and screwed things up to a fair thee well.
Well said.
This should be a lesson to the nation: You get what you vote for.
It votes for another Toon at its peril.
At a moment of national crisis, real leaders provide real leadership, not ankle bite and whine.
Everything she does is politically motivated: Ed Klein's book earlier this year documents her behavior exquisitely.
Wow. I missed those threads. Thanks for posting the links. Those facts can't be repeated enough!
Hillary's eagerness to trash the Federal response and call for yet another political commission does seem crass and opportunistic. Check out the latest Gallup Poll that shows only 13% of Americans blame Bush for the slow relief efforts:

Afraid of having Kathleen Blank-0's feet held to the fire, obviously. That would SO mess up the spin!
uh-huh and here's why she wants it the way it used to be.....
Her hubby, aka Monica's ex boyfriend, issued a little EO during his last year in orifice (sic) that put the Attorney General, Janet Rhino (sic) and the Justice Dept in ultimateCHARGE over FEMA in case of a national disaster/emergency. The AG was the FEMA Director's boss. That's one nice scenerio (IMHO) for declaring martial law for some trumped up reason. And IIRC this occurred around the same time that Willard was going to issue another EO redefining 'Federalism' and the powers of the Executive Branch. Thankfully word of this leaked out, Congress went into an uproar and Billy Jeff never signed that EO.
So naturally 'The Beast' wants FEMA like it used to be.
I heard on Rush's show yesterday that the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and putting FEMA under it were DEMOCRAT initiatives, mostly from Joe Lieberman, and that Hillary! voted for them.
Thank you, SeaBiscuit!
... because it's the pits when she gets on your case? :-)
Methinks Hillary has another Gorelick in the woodpile.
At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.
Many thanks,
Michael McCullough
