Democrats Step Up Criticism of White House Response (John Edwards back to his "two Americas" slogan)
NY Times ^ | 9/8/05

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 - After 10 days of often uncertain responses to the Bush administration's management of Hurricane Katrina, Democratic leaders unleashed a burst of attacks on the White House on Wednesday, saying the wreckage in New Orleans raised doubts about the country's readiness to endure a terrorist attack and exposed ominous economic rifts that they said had worsened under five years of Republican rule.

From Democratic leaders on the floor of Congress, to a speech by the Democratic National Committee chairman at a meeting of the National Baptist Convention in Miami, to four morning television interviews by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrats offered what was shaping up as the most concerted attack that they had mounted on the White House in the five years of the Bush presidency.

"Oblivious. In denial. Dangerous," Representative Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California and the House minority leader, said of President Bush as she stood in front of a battery of uniformed police officers and firefighters in a Capitol Hill ceremony that had originally been scheduled to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"Americans should now harbor no illusions about the government's ability to respond effectively to disasters," she said. "Our vulnerabilities were laid bare."

Former Senator John Edwards, a likely candidate for president in 2008 and the Democratic Party's vice-presidential nominee in 2004, argued that the breakdown in New Orleans illustrated the central theme of his national campaigns: the nation has been severed into two Americas.

"The truth is the people who suffer the most from Katrina are the very people who suffer the most every day," Mr. Edwards said in a speech in North Carolina on Wednesday, according to a transcript provided by his office.

Yes, Mr. Edwards, there are two Americas. One America has local governments run by crooked and incompetent Democrats, and the other does not not.

They sound guilty, and desperate.

Their socialist Utopian State has been exposed, and they are frantic to change the impression.

And PS to Johnny Edwards ... most of the delays in the evac came from legal concerns. Say a nice thank you to your fellow trial lawyers. I believe one of them was seen swimming the in the flood waters.

Yep. The displaced evacuees will spread that truth throughout America. This is going to backfire on them.

As far as the Pelosi quote, the Slimes conveniently ignores the fact that she led by asking for Brown's head. GWB asks why, and her reaction is to conclude that Bush is in denial. So many logical holes and yet the Slimes thinks this is the best attack in 5 years.

I get more optimistic about the total collapse of liberalism in America every day.

It seems like a win-win situation for Hilary. She can get in her licks on Bush, but she will throw Blanco under the bus faster than Blanco left those poor blacks without food in the Superdome. The end result may be the downfall of Blanco, but it will also result in the rise of big government as states cannot be at the mercy of incompetent governors (regardless of the fact that they elected the wretch to the office).

Doubts about America's readiness against a terror attack...that hasn't happened in the four years since the last one...

See Democrats. See pile of excrement. See Democrats walk into pile of excrement. Intentionally. ???s?

Interesting .. the media have been pounding Bush for over a week, and only 13% blame Bush for anything in NO.

You'd think the dems would get it .. but oh no .. they don't think their stupid msg is getting out so they are going to press even harder.

YO, DEMOCRATS!! This is where you made your mistake in 2004 - AND YOU LOST BIG TIME. Looks like you're back for another dose. Good grief.

Phone records between Blanco and the DNC and Hillary's office might break up their perfect storm.

Hillary Rodham is not ever gonna be President. I hope they nominate that wide glide, it will be fun to see her thumped on a National scale.

Hillary was (and is) twice as corrupt as her skirt chasing husband. Bill is simply Bubba, Hillary is the Devil Incarnate

And well you should. They are relentlessly going over and over plowed ground. Not an original thought in the whole bunch. No agenda, no platform, no alternative save for hatred. And the media dances with them in this dance of death.
This will sound PollyAnnaish, but I kinda miss the old time "loyal opposition".
We have our challenges, but not from them. They are just not an alternative.

The New York Times is making this non-news into news.

I for one would love, during a press conference, that Bush would smack these idiots down.

I'm becoming more and more certain that this is another dumb strategy for Democrats. This country isn't made up of desponent, angst-ridden losers. Not even 50% of voters can be described that way.
