The undoing of America
The Washington Times ^ | September 5, 2005 | Frank J. Gaffney Jr.

Posted on 09/05/2005 7:12:29 AM PDT by george76

The U.S. Senate is scheduled tomorrow to decide whether to clear the way for the most odious, anti-American piece of legislation in memory: S. 147, the "Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act."

Incredibly, as of now, more than 61 senators are expected to vote to begin a process that would ineluctably unravel the United States as a nation.

This legislation has been advanced in the spirit of pandering that has come to characterize all too much of our national political life. In this case, the pandering is on behalf of an ethnic community that is largely a figment of some politicians' imaginations...This could involve creating a new Hawaiian monarchy and perhaps lead to the islands' secession from the Union.

Hawaii's longtime Democratic Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye are leading the charge for S. 147...

A clearly unconstitutional effort to legislatively manufacture a new "tribe" out of one of the most heterogenous and fully assimilated populations in America...

Should senators violate their oath of office -- which obliges them to "support and defend the Constitution" -- by enacting S. 147, they will invite an even greater problem down the road. Other self-designating communities can be expected to demand recognition of their rights to have their own government and sovereign laws.

Not to be a prophet of doom, but this is very similar to how the Soviet Union started to unravel and quickly fell apart.

It's just like the thinking behind the gay marriage bills. Short sighted lawmakers either haplessly or deliberately open the door to untold unintended consequences.

Could you imagine Jesse Jackson declaring Operation Push headquarters the capitol of the South Side as a sovereign entity?

Oh yikes, don't say that.

I hope I am dead and gone before that ever happens.

Congress? Thinking? When does Congress ever think except when it involves lining their own pockets?

Republicans can stop this travesty. If they don't, it should be remembered that they didn't.

We have five Native American tribes in California that can trace their ancient pre-Columbian roots all the way back to 1998 or thereabout. That's when part of the gaming board of one tribe broke off from the main tribe and decided (like the other four faux-tribes) that they wanted their own casino too, but they wanted the federal government to pay for the land of course. So they created a tribal charter, and became a tribe, and Uncle gave them 360 magnificent acres right on the south bank of the Klamath River, right next to California 101, and the casino is under construction as I type this very post.

Withhold money from all the "injured" indigenous peoples whole suck off the teats of the foreign invaders who came to the new world to escape the chains of the ruling class. It's time for the "melting pot Americans" to keep the wealth of their hard earned efforts.

We have just one problem other than keeping our own money, and that is cutting off welfare to the "old wealth", those who sit on central bank boards and skim earnings off of money they move around and give kick backs to corrupt politicians.

Is this for real? Someone didn't just replace "Scrappleface" with "The Washington Times"? This is why it's impossible to satirize anything anymore. Reality constantly trumps even the most far-fetched, outrageous possibility someone could think up.

Let's see: sucking up to a special interest group, fawning coverage from the MSM. The usual reasons for stupid sh*t like this.

As a property owner and frequent visitor to Hawaii I will add that most 'native Hawaiians' are not true Hawaiians but a mix of polynesians, mostly Samoans.

There are very very few pure Hawaiians that are still alive.

This legislation is indeed associated with the Hawaii national movement that gathered strength under Clinton. Although most Hawaiians are very happy to be part of the USA, there are those that are unhappy they are at an economic disadvantage to American mainlanders and see a way of life replaced by cruise ships, condos and expensive shopping developments. To a large extent I agree with their opposition to the intrusion of corporate marketing and development and its damaging effects on the natural beauty of the islands.

On the other hand the revisionist rehabilitation of the Hawaiian monarchy is over the top. The palace restoration is more a testiment to an ugly period where Hawaiian Royals followed after British monarchal models.

Put it this way, it is ridiculous to see native Hawaiian royals dressed up in full Victorian garb replete with medals and medallions.

The current palace was a replacement of a former more modest pagoda-like structure with expansive verandas and porches. That former structure had the air of intimacy and relaxation about it. But now there is a vain attempt to mark some sort of Hawaiian heritage that confuses itself with Victorian England.

Hawaii is all about health, rejuvenation and gentleness. True Hawaiians may be nearly gone but their legacy is or should be healthy diet, lifestyle and ecological sensitivity.

Unfortunately many of the 'native islanders' consume Spam and are severely afflicted with diabetes and obesity, hardly a model to the world for ideal living. They are also mostly on the public dole. Yes, they are very much part of the welfare diseased state and the current proposed legislation wants to claim tribal lands for then in the same manner as American native nations.
