To be fair, Reform Temples and other Jewish groups are also very involved in hurricane relief efforts. The New Orleans Jewish community dates back to the days when Louisiana was ruled by the French.

It is against Jewish law to write the name of God because His name could then be destroyed. Of course, God's name is a Hebrew word, not spelled G-o-d. However, many Jews extend the law to include the English spelling of God.
