Unbelievable, too many stranded residential REFUSE TO LEAVE their homes!
Than let them stay.
Waiting for the Governor and Mayor to exercise their authority to remove them...
Brilliant editorial, a fascinating read.
Bush's fault, obviously.
If they are alive and safe and want to stay in their homes, fine - let them. Divert the rescue efforts elsewhere. Not everyone wants or needs Daddy Government.
This happens with every disaster of this magnitude.
I just saw a helicopter rescuer say they are encountering many N.O. people still in their homes who are in denial about the water and their lack of supplies who are refusing to be relocated via rescue efforts, like helicopters, etc. The rescue man said they are in denial about how long the water will take to go down and their low essential supplies to wait it all out. Crazy, this is what puts added strain and risk to our search and rescue teams.
Fox News just said that it may be 6 months before they can get the water out of the city.
They just showed something similar on Fox. The rescuer had to convince them to leave. Unbelieveable.
People are STILL refusing to leave. Why am I not surprised.
Those stranded residents have not had news for a week - so they don't know the severity of the situation. No excuse for them, but it probably is a shock to hear how bad things are.
I agree.
The point is, they are not "safe" and pose an obstacle to the restoration of security, clean up, and reconstruction on behalf of hundreds of thusands of others...
Not to mention that these stragglers, living without adequate water service or sewage, have the potential to start a large scale public health threat (cholera, dysentery, Nile Fever, yada yada yada)
If they are alive and safe and want to stay in their homes, fine - let them. Divert the rescue efforts elsewhere. Not everyone wants or needs Daddy Government.
I agree but this Today Show transcript also needs to be added to the documentation file for later to prove to the anti-American caucus and the ACLU that many Katrina disaster people refused assistance as much as a week later and cost many rescue teams precious time, energy and fuel during the emergency search & rescue efforts.
They want to protect their new wide screen TVs and other new stuff.
You can't blame the ones whom want to protect their homes, assuming there is something left. Truth be told, some of these people are staying to protect the loot they stole.
At some point they want have a choice.
They need to drop a red dye pack on the roof and move on.
No more resources dedicated to marked homes.
And if anything hits my town, if my house is still standing mark the roof and move on.
I'll be inside, armed and willing to take care of myself and family.
