The definitive list of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's "genuinely heroic" decisions

Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00

'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...

On an earlier FR thread, we learned that the BBC has determined that Ray Nagin, mayor of the devastated city of New Orleans, Louisiana, has "genuinely heroic" qualities. I've started this thread to make it easy to keep track of those decisions of Mayor Nagin that can only be described as heroic. The list begins in post #1 below. Feel free to continue it if you find that I've overlooked any of Mayor Nagin's stunningly courageous and far-sighted decisions.

The definitive list of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's courageous decisions during and after the evisceration of his city by the winds and rains of Hurricane Katrina, by unchecked flooding through breached levees and by the postdiluvian predations of a few of his more morally challenged constituents:

  1. Mayor Nagin decided to employ inspired rhetoric to raise the spirits (if not the bodies) of his afflicted populace. Here's a paraphrase of his most famous quote:  "Help us, goddamnit!"

  2. (add to the list beginning here)

I think we should focus on the relief effort and save the blame game for later.

When did he book it out of NO for the Baton Rouge hotel suite?

OK,

I sent in my check. We can blame now. The left sure hasn't waited.

As a former resident of New Orleans, I'm expressing my outrage at what I perceive to be almost criminal inaction by Nagin and his subordinates. They knew that tens of thousands of their citizens had no means of transportation out of the city, and yet, after ordering a mandatory evacuation, they provided no help.

Too late!

The dems are WAY AHEAD of everyone in the 'blame game'.

After all, it's BUSH'S FAULT!/s

And they're saying loudly and continuously!

It will be a circus. I hope Ted K. kicks the bucket before any "hearings" start. You know...water...as in Oldsmobiles under?

He demonstrated heroic cleverness by fleeing to Baton Rouge ahead of the storm. Without this wisdom, he wouldn't have had access to a working radio station from which to blame Bush.

Then focus on the relief effort and leave the documentation to those of us who are not doing relief work. Thanks.

That is the point. The NO plan called for people to report to locations through out the parishes to be picked up by bus and transported to shelters inland for as long as possible. That is SHELTERS not the Refuges of Last Resort as defined in the plan!

I also noted that there were references to turning all the highways to outbounds and the plan stated it wasn't necessary and would NOT be done in the event of a major evacuation call!

The IEM plan is no where to be found on any public site and is therefore assumed to be MIA or incomplete.

Since this mayor thing hasn't worked out so well for Nagin, he had to demonstrate his street cred before launching his future rap career.

If you, Kleon, are personally standing on the front lines of the rescue effort, then I agree with you, and you should get back to the rescue, and stop your postings to FR.

For the rest of us who are not there, we are not playing a "game". We help support the rescue from the Internet using facts. I believe we should be making hell for the rats while they lie and distort, we should defend Bush's decisions, and counterpunch these rats in real time. If we don't staple the truth to these threads on FR in real time, we will slowly lose our chance to reveal the facts in our defense.

Why don't you go tell the rats to "save the blame game for later", not us.

A long, boring read.

City of New Orleans Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan

So long and boring the Mayor never quite found the time to read it!

Heartly agree. Let the righteous relief workers go out and do their good works. Let the pajamhadeen do their work of uncovering and exposing shoddy media hack disinformation and obfuscation...
