D.C.'s Rescue Bus Caravan to New Orleans Mired in Cluster Foxtrot

In the category of the road to hell is paved with good intentions, a ten bus caravan headed from Washington, D.C. to bring back 400 Katrina victims from New Orleans is mired in confusion and poor planning somewhere down South.

The rescue caravan, organized by D.C. City Council member David Catania, was reported by WUSA-TV reporter Bruce LeShan to be stopped in the middle of nowhere before reaching its destination.

LeShan, who is stuck on the caravan and called in his report, said there is no gas to be had, no hotels with vacancies and that the drivers pulled over because after being on the road for 24 hours the drivers just couldn't drive anymore.

He also said the buses are old and rickety and can't go very fast.

The caravan was organized independently by Catania without coordination with the federal government.

The WUSA anchor in the Washington studio was stunned at LeShan's report of the cluster foxtrot.

God help the people of New Orleans if those buses do get there. They'll be delivered unto New Orleans on the Potomac.

The government of our nation's capital has improved some since the Barry years (even though the former mayor-for-life was recently elected to the City Council,) but the incompetence that marked his tenure still lingers.

As with all government programs instigated by liberals, it's their intentions that count--not the results.

And, I'll bet they don't have bathrooms, either.

Old military axiom...."Amatuers talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics."

These people just learned a lesson in logistics.

This is why FEMA does not want people coming down to the disaster site willy nilly. Can you imagine if they had made it to NO, fill up our tanks and feed us please, as if the feds don't have enough useless beauracrats running around there already. All freepers who were questioning why the feds turned down Daley's help have their answer.

If the underlying story wasn't so tragic, I'd go for some easy humor on this story. I'll just let it sit so no one feels compelled to hit an abuse button.

LOL! Cindy's in her own quagmire. Life gets pretty rough when the White House press corps isn't around to protect you from scrutiny.

I appreciate that. If and when they bring people back, they are planning to house them at the D.C. Armory which is right next to RFK Stadium. That's where the cars of Washington Nationals players have been repeatedly looted.

One of the problems identified in the 9/11 response was that firefighters and ems workers just ran in the direction of the smoke.

At the Pentagon, several different agencies set up triage and command locations out of sight and unknown to other departments. No one person knew who was there or what assets they had at their disposal.

All the departments rushing to the scene left gaps in coverage for fire and ems in other areas as well, so if another plane had hit in DC, there may have been a delayed response because some units were at the Pentagon unneccessarily and no single command authority could dispatch them elsewhere.
