BREAKING: Not verified....FEMA appropriating police and private security in Houston.
Grapevine ^ | September 2, 2005 | Me

Posted on 09/02/2005 9:53:33 AM PDT by ContemptofCourt

Just heard through the grapevine that FEMA has appropriated all police and private security personnel in Houston to aid with the influx of refugees. All vacations cancelled..events requiring private security or off-duty police are likewise being cancelled.

This is not verified. Any confirmation?

It would make sense. 75,000 people don't move into one city over a 3 or 4 day period normally....

I wonder what authority FEMA would have over private security firms.

Taking over authority is not the same as intergovernmental cooperation. They might as well declare martial law, it amounts to the same thing and doesn't have the whiff of dissimulation.

Perhaps...but I just read that the Reliant is also going to opened for 11K refugees.

Just who is going to police all of these people in Houston?

They may have some pull with city police, but I doubt that they can comandeer private security personnel as they are not civil servants.

Generally, the best idea is to confirm your rumor BEFORE posting it for the entire world to read.

Let's hope so -- and they put together better security measures and personnel that the Mayor of N. O. has.

Yeah. Not exactly "breaking" here, but we've now got'em in the Astrodome, Reliant Arena, and the Reliant Center, plus they're preparing a huge convention center downtown, so it makes sense they're pulling out all stops for security.

We are NOT going to have out of control behavior here. I don't expect it anyway, these people have been through the wringer.

Houston is doing a MAGNIFICENT job, keep us in your prayers. It's giving me chills thinking about it. Everybody is pitching in and saying "bring them on." The world should look at what's happening here, but of course they won't.
