28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

I saw that in January...in fact, Dad suggested I invest in Real Estate up there just this side of I-40.

No spare money for that!

To be honest, my comment was to point out that if a natural disaster did occur, we don't have concentrations of people like they do in major cities, and the numbers of victims wouldn't be as high.

The funny thing!!!! NONE of the people in dire straits can SEE or HEAR Jessie Jackson; he;s grandstanding! Who they WILL see is our President who is in Biloxi right now giving hugs and crying with the people.

ATLANTA (AP) — About 140 refugees from New Orleans flashed peace signs and laughed with joy on Thursday when they arrived by plane in Atlanta.
They were plucked from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport by a Delta Air Lines jet, flown by two of the company's vice presidents accompanied by CEO Jerry Grinstein.

The fortunate passengers were among the hundreds seeking refuge at the crowded airport, which Grinstein said resembled a scene from "MASH."

Randy Willheit and his friend James Berndt had been stranded at the Chalmette Medical Center for five days before being airlifted to the airport.

The pair set out on a boat each day, grabbing an estimated 200 survivors hanging onto rooftops and bringing them to the relative safety of the hospital.

"I can't believe we lived through it," Willheit said.

Actually he is on the ground, touring Biloxi. Too risky to set down in NO.

And I wonder if others in this country are getting to the point where I am fast getting

I'm sure they are.

But more than not, most people aren't paying attention.

The cable channels think they have everybody's ear and this Bush bashing will stick, but the latest poll shows overwhelming support for Bush's handling of the situation, and after today, and the show of force, those numbers will continue to rise.

Truth is, we are all news junkies, but many of my friends aren't really following the story, and say, "Yeah isn't it awful, well helps on the way."

The media is just hyping, but with the average American, if anything, this is making them a little angry at the behavior of some of the residents of NO

The Democrats desire to capitalize on the disaster will only backfire on them.

Just look at Bill Clinton's statement in support of the President, he's a smart politician (bad President but smart politician and there aren't many of those left in the Dem party) and knows there's nothing to be had by criticizing the President in a time of national crisis.

"The Reverend said he went into the city last night on a bus, and was surrounded by evacuees begging for a ride out of town. Jackson said the people tried to form a human chain around the bus in order to stop it so they could board it."

So what is his excuse for not taking a few sick people and little babies on the bus? I mean really! Why didn't some of his entourage vacate the bus and let some people on? Why wasn't his bus loaded with food and water? He KNEW there were people there that needed it before he went in. Put up or shut up Mr. Jackson. You had a chance to save a few people and you just got your press op and got the hell out of there.

I turned on CNN and PMSNBC while he was doing that. The anchors were very subdued. Didn't fit in with their agenda I guess.

I'm watching Pres. Bush consoling a black woman and her child. A nice strong arm around the girls shoulders. A pillar of strength as opposed to a photo op that other person who preceded him would have.

The Narcos and Technicals should be relatively easy to find. They will have gravitated to the rich condos and highrises to set up their Caliban's kingdoms, around which they will hold court as they send out posses of gunmen to rob, kill, and loot swag. They are criminals, and will not be smart enough to think like professional jihadists, who would deliberately lie low in middle class and Muslim areas.

Regular infantry will deal with these clowns, deputized under the Louisiana State Police to maintain the veneer of posse comitatus. The technicals and narcotraficantes will die violent deaths that you will not hear about.

The smart narcos left town with their high grade supply on Saturday, at the latest. Before landfall. Needless to say, those are the ones whose protection contracts with certain police officers bought their way out of town. They aren't around to die. They're watching this on television. They're also watching the street value of their supply go up, given the fact that a lot of processed heroin and cocaine is lying at the bottom of the water.

Be Seeing You,

Chris
