Fox News Channel ^ | 090105 | Shep Smith

Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

Like nobody died? The body was in the distance and covered with a blanket. Go watch the Cartoon Network. This is real.

Here is what I know. Baton Rouge LA has now been reporting break ins at Gas Stations along the 10. Pensacola, FL (where I am)is 85% out of gas. People are fighting at the pumps and my husband decided to stick around here b/c things are getting creepy. We sent generators, ice, etc. to Biloxi but are trying to keep all calm here in FL simply b/c a city without petro is very scary.

I gladly yield to the Phantom Lord's more accurate recounting of the incident. I did not know that the woman in question was an employee of a competing network.

"Why is she still there!
That's criminal."

No. It's not. Let the dead take care of the dead. Energy and resources spent on bodies can't be spend on survivors.

A body is a body. It is no longer a person. Somewhere nearby, there is a person who needs assistance. The dead need no further assistance.

Well in that case, welcome to FR. The bumrush of people at the pumps is not a good thing and what's making the gas run low.

Did he kill the person himself?

they were standing in Shep's parking space.

I may not agree totally with mhking's take in this particular situation (about Shep) - however, he is well aware of what is going on there. so I suggest you take your comments elsewhere.

You need to walk in Shep's shoes for one day down there, then come talk to me about grandstanding. He's overwhelmed because the situation is overwhelming.

Sure, we expect professionalism in the news, but exposing someone to that level of devastation, for that long, top it with the guilt he must feel, knowing he can leave and go home and resume his life, and I think Shep is holding up remarkably well.

If we could resettle thousands of Somali Muslims all over the US, it certainly looks like we can do the same for citizens of our own country.
And while we are at it, how about deporting all the illegal aliens now. We have hundreds of thousands of Americans who need those construction, landscaping and service jobs. Send the Mexicans home...and please, don't let those from NO into the refugee shelters.

He seems to be assigning blame to the wrong places...it belongs in the LA Gov & NOLA Mayors' offices.

They should be showing plenty of bodies. What is wrong with you. Dont you think the tens of thousands of dead should be known?

I really don't understand why people think it's very easy to get supplies in...

Ever heard of the Berlin Airlift in June 1948?

In one day (22 June 1948), the USAFE delivered 156 tons of supplies in 64 sorties.

The USA resupplied an entire city and evacuated residents thousands of miles away, why not here in the USA?

Flights - 189,963
Total Cargo Lifted in Tons - 1,783,573
Food in Tons - 296,319
Coal in Tons - 1,421,119
Supplies in Tons - 66,135
Passengers airlifted out - 37,486

The way I read it was that she was alive when the picture taking started (that's what it looked like to me)....

I'm enraged that someone in her condition was there for that long to begin with.

And yes, I'm really cranky today.

I agree.

It's not about the fact of death, and dead bodies.

It's about the gleeful exploitation of this fact.

What the hell is offensive about showing a dead body? This is only the second dead body that I've seen during the entire coverage...the other came from the Commie News Network of all places.

It seems that there were some on here taking down MFH yesterday by demanding proof of the thousands of dead bodies he alleged...and now that there are actually some pictures providing at least anecdotal proof....that this killer storm did in fact take lives....you are going after Shep.

Pretty freaking incredible. This is reality folks. People died down there...
