Ten Year Old Arrested for Giving Food to Terri Schiavo Apologizes

Joshua's arrestTAMPA BAY, August 31, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ten year-old Joshua Heldreth, the eldest of eight children, was arrested on Good Friday of this year for trespassing while attempting to bring a drink of water to Miss Terri Schaivo.  Days later Schiavo died of intentional dehydration.  In court Joshua pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 hours of community service and ordered to write an apology for his actions.

The boy whose arrest photo was splashed on front pages of newspapers across the nation wrote in his apology letter, "I was arrested on Good Friday for trespassing on the hospice center's property . . . Not giving Mrs. Shiavo (sic) food or water was wrong.  The reason I had to go on your property was because Jesus would do the same thing.  It made me sad that she was so thirsty and it made Jesus sad too.  I knew she would die without water and I am called by Jesus to be a defender of the defenceless.  So I had to go on your property to try to bring her a drink."

Joshua added, "I am sorry that you didn't like that and wouldn't allow me to help save her life and one day you will have to tell God why.  I won't be able to help you then like I tried to help her. I will pray for you every day . . ."

LifeSiteNews.com caught up with Joshua's father Scott Heldreth today.  Scott told LifeSiteNews.com he is very proud of his son.  "My son has amazed me through this whole thing," said Heldreth.  The proud father said it was his son's own initiative to attempt to give the starving woman a glass of water, and despite the warning of his parents that he'd be arrested, the boy insisted.  "He was the one who begged us to go down, because he wanted to give her a glass of water . . . We explained that police will never let you help . . . you'll be arrested, but he went anyways."

Pro-life leader Rev. Flip Benham of Operation Save America told LifeSiteNews.com that the whole pro-life movement shares Heldreth's pride in his son.  Benham recalls the reaction of Heldreth on Good Friday as he watched his son being arrested: "When that all took place Scott was weeping, this father was weeping tears of joy seeing his son not only talk the Christian talk but walk the walk."

While the apology letter has been submitted, Heldreth told LifeSiteNews.com he's not completely sure it will be accepted.

Good reason not to donate your organs - eliminate their source.

FYI summary re: Scott Thomas

March 2002 – Scott marries Eliza.

Two years after marriage – Scott is often ill, and is hospitalized for up to two weeks at a time.

July 24, 2004 - Their son Logan is born.

September 5, 2004 – Scott suffers an unknown brain injury while home alone with his wife and son. Scott is taken to the ER at Memorial Hospital. He is taken into surgery and his brain is operated on. The surgeon indicates that the trauma to Scott’s head is not consistent with a standing fall. Scott’s injuries are deemed too severe to have occurred in that way. Scott lays in a coma for several weeks.

After about three weeks in the ICU, a second scan is requested by Scott’s mom – the scan comes back saying there is no damage to the brain stem.

October 18, 2004 - Scott is taken to Kindred Hospital.

October 27 and 28, 2004 – Eliza tells doctors she wants hospice to take Scott if he is not better in two weeks, but then on the 30th she talks with the doctors again about taking Scott to the hospice.

November 1, 2004 – Eliza talks again to doctors about sending him to a hospice.

November 11, 2004 – Scott’s mom, Pamela, is told that Scott will be taken to a hospice on or around the 12th. Pamela contacts an attorney and on the 12th Judge William Wilkes gives Pamela emergency guardianship.

November 23, 2004 – Pamela takes Scott home to her house to care for him.

January, 2005 – Pamela is given temporary plenary (complete) guardianship. She continues to work with him, preparing him for a time of rehabilitation at Brooks Rehab.

Late March, 2005 – Scott becomes an inpatient at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital.

April, 2005 - Scott begins hyperbaric therapy with Dr. Murray.

Late May, 2005 – Scott is discharged from Brooks Rehab, continues hyperbaric, shows great improvement.

June 7, 2005 – Pamela takes Scott to Clearwater for a week with Dr. Hammesfahr, begins nitrogen cream treatment, magnesium injections.

July 18, 2005 – Temporary plenary guardianship is renewed and investigations continue to try to determine how Scott was injured.

As of August 9, 2005 – Scott is at home under the care and protection of his mother and day by day he continues to recover.

The next guardianship hearing is scheduled for sometime in January, 2006.

You're right. The younger generations do give us hope for a brighter tomorrow. They don't buy into the stupidity of the yuppy generation. Look how the young adults are volunteering to protect us and our way of life.

I'd be happy to donate my organs, after I'm dead. But not a moment sooner. When end-of-life care is altered to prepare organs for transplant, ownership of those organs already been transferred, away from the rightful owner who is still using them.

Jeb Jr.'s Texas DUI and he had a prior DUI in Florida that I didn't know about until today. Poor Jeb. (sarcasm tag) It's such a burden sometimes to be a parent, like the burden the State put on Terri's mom and dad. Terri was neglected and then tortured to death. Jeb Jr. will get community service of something special, nothing like Terri got.

Hi, friend. I'm bumping this thread while I watch Fox News Saturday. Why doesn't Fox have closed captioning on the weekend? I'm going to try to find out. I like to listen to music, mute the tv and read closed captioning.

Someday they'll hold organ auctions. I can hear the auctioneer now. "What do I hear for this kidney, from a Chinese political prisoner?"

By the way, China is sending skin from executed prisoners there to the Americas for skin transplants. I bet the MOSI Bodies Exhibit in Tampa is not taking in lots of cash now. Hurricane Katrina mitigated whatever curiosity with dead bodies there was out there. They even had a cocktail party over there for the body exhibit.

Why pay to see Chinese non-volunteer corpses in plastic who are exhibited without their prior consent who were probably murdered by China?

When life is devalued, it is the end of civilization as we know it. That's why I like to watch Fr. Frank Pavone on EWTN. He's a straight talking priest. He knows the score. Go, Frank.

Thanks for the nice background on Scott Thomas. Sounds maybe like she was poisoning him before she hit him over the head to me.

Remember I was breathing on my own and talking and the ER shoved a Living Will in my face. What I had signed it??? If it was a bad hospital which it wasn't, they could have been negligent but would not be held to account because I was letting them off the hook if I had signed a living will. A bad facility could accidentally kill somebody but if they have the Living Will, it negates their culpability.

Living Wills give medical facilities room to make mistakes and then not be held accountable for them.

And then they want the organs for big dollars. Remember the movie Coma? Tom Selleck was suspended in mid-air. I think he was killed in that murder for his organs. That was a while ago.

From the Office of Jeb Bush:

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the Jessica Lunsford Act with Governor Bush. The Governor understands the concerns you and others have expressed and asked me to respond on his behalf.

Governor Bush is working with legislative leaders to address complications encountered in implementation of the Jessica Lunsford Act passed during the 2005 legislative session. Your email is being forwarded to the Governor's Legislative Director Chris Flack and to Randy Ball, Public Safety Policy Coordinator in the Governor's Office of Policy and Budget, so that they will have the benefit of your comments as they seek an appropriate remedy.

Governor Bush believes violent, sexual crimes against children are among the most heinous imaginable. The Governor encourages citizens to be ever vigilant and to promote awareness of sexual offenders and sexual predators living within their communities. If you suspect a child is in any danger, notify your local law enforcement or the Department of Children and Families’ hot line, 1-800-96-ABUSE.

As a concerned citizen, you have the opportunity to influence legislation by contacting your local legislative delegation. You may wish to write to your senator or representative. Governor Bush wants to know how Floridians feel about the many critical issues we face, and promises to keep your ideas in mind as he forms policy for addressing these concerns.

The Governor sends his best regards and thanks you very much for your valuable input.

Sincerely,

Warren Davis, Office of Citizens' Services

(FV says: I guess if it's not about Justice for Terri Schiavo, Jeb has someone answer his emails).

WOW, what a response! This is the first big response from Jeb's office I've seen on a Terri thread, but to bad it has nothing to do with Terri. What a pity we never saw more e-mails like this for Terri!

It claims to be full of truth, so must mean Michael has seen the light, the error of his ways, and that murdering just isn't right.

Wonder where I will have to go to stand in line early to buy this tome... Maybe he will be autographing copies and will write something special in my copy, LOL.
