There is good news and bad news about gasoline.

First the good news....

Gasoline could be given away with technology already available.

The bad news is that the oil companies will not allow it.

Check out this link Oil independence

It will open your eyes as to a process that will allow the United States to get out of the Middle east, give us energy independence and allow us to say to the rest of the world stick your oil up your greedy little cans.

The only problem with this is the oil companies are in cahoots with the government will not allow this technology to become our answer.

We have well over 1,000 years of oil in our coal....more than enough to supply our needs and heat our homes with the natural gas, run our automobiles, and supply smokeless solid fuel to run our industries and generate electricity for as I have stated for over 1000 years.

Time for us to get on our congress and senate and make them aware of this and tell them they will be gone if nothing is done to stop this destruction of our economy.

I have heard that pixie dust can power a 4000 pound automobile from 0-60mph in 4 seconds, but Exxon/Mobile own the patent and wont license it.

If the Oil and Gas Giants really want to maintain control of the market then all they have to do is announce a commitment to build 20 new refineries within a couple years. If they did this the market will stabilize by shoving the speculators out of the way, gas prices will rapidly decline then people will become complacent once again and get their mind off "alternative" sources.

Until cracking coal into more usable forms of hydrocarbons is economically viable, it isn't going to happen. Many battles would need to be won first, including environmental (mining, sulfur disposal), technological (processing 100 lbs to show the theory and processing 100 million lbs are quite different things).

I am surprised that free market types would go for this hype. When it can turn a profit, it will happen.

Cheap gasoline? Sure, all the federal government has to do is remove all those taxes.

When it's economically feasible to extract oil from coal-- when it costs less to do that to buy raw oil-- the free market economy will force it. And oil companies will be among the first to do it.

I hve a moped, the old kind that's shaped like a bicycle.

It gets 122 to 130 miles per gallon depending on the number of stops and starts.

I bought it last year just to have fun riding, but now I use it a lot for short trips to the store, etc. Except for trips where I have to carry something heavy or bulky, or trips longer than about five miles, the car stays in the carport.

If we could bottle all that gas that comes out of Washington we would have it made. I always thought that pixie dust would be good for something.

There seems to be a theme running through all the buchanan/farah wing nut threads today on FR.

It's all the evil oil companies fault and not a peep about the envirowhackos, who actually are preventing any actual energy independence.
