Foggy Bottom Memos: The Hemorrhaging of Iraq War Minutes (Impeach Bush alert)
Huffington Post ^ | 08/24/05 | William E. Jackson Jr.

It was such a disgraceful performance by the Bush White House that it is painful to be reminded of it on television: the most credible figure in the Administration, Secretary of State Colin Powel, was trotted out at the UN in February 2003 to present a pile of official legerdemain--based on shoddy intelligence--that provided the WMD rationale for the imminent invasion of Iraq. Has anyone been held accountable?

This has to set some kind of record for the most left-wing crapola crammed into a lead-in sentence.

Why do people write "trotted out" if they hold someone or something in contempt? It's quite the cliche, isn't it?

I've seen this spin elsewhere.

Powell makes statements and advocates policies based on what is in hindsight severely flawed intelligence. He is portrayed as a victim of those who provided the bad info.

Bush takes similar action based on exactly the same intelligence. He is portrayed as a liar, who knew the intelligence was wrong and proceeded anyway.

Why the difference?

so true - article also completely ignores Iraq's actions and flaunts of UN security council - 17 TIMES? Serious consequences - but how did Iraq behave?? Oh yeah - that's right ... Iraq did nothing to make it ever suspicious - it was a peace loving happy country!

Powell is black and has been called a house ******.

He "must" be a pawn in the eyes of the left.

Where was Colin Powell working in 1998 when Clinton passed the Irai Liberation Act based on that same intelligence?

Saddam and Son's history has been completely rewritten, the leftists and their NY media have won.

Saddam is on his way to sainthood.

Sorry about the typo: "such"

It's still nonsense.

My question was somewhat rhetorical in nature.

Ask leftists why we have background checks on firearms. Saddam was like a convicted felon out on parole.

How many times can he attempt to buy weapons, that while legal, violated the conditions of his "parole"?

Should we ignore his proven effort to TRY to obtain WMD? Should we ignore any attempts someone makes to hire a hitman as long as they aren't successful?

Saddam was a state sponsor of terrorism. He gave money to the families of suicide bombers.

They can shout that "Iraq posed no threat" all they want if they would remind me when Bosnia ever declared war against the US.

Cindy Sheehan's actions have emboldened other parents who have lost their precious children in the Halliburton War for Oil. Just today, the inspiration of her actions has led a father who has lost two sons in Bush's war to begin to seek redress and an audience with the President.

"I wish, with all my heart, that I was able to be with Cindy Sheehan in her vigil. My sons have died terrible deaths on the altar of American imperialism, and I hold George W. Bush personally responsible."

"Each day the memories of their laughter haunts every passing hour. Each day I weep for my dear sons, Uday and Qusay."

The left are digging in and if we blink now or do not ramp up our words and actions they will turn this thing against us. I may scare easily, but the tone has changed in the last few weeks, and they are writing the accepted wisdom. Bush and his team need to come out fighting hard ASAP. Any delay will only water the seeds of doubt being now sown. The Cold War was fought - hot and cold - for 40+ years. Why are we talking of giving up so soon, when a thorough victory will only come to the side that's mosts patient and persistant? There is no victory unless the enemy is defeated.

The enemy is only emboldened by doubts on our side. They have just 'won' Gaza and forced, in their eyes, a humilating and decisive retreat onto Israel. Their perception of any weakness on our part cannot be overestimated. We must not just 'prevail', we must flourish.

The 'impeach Bush' crowd seems to have gained some momentum. The strategy is to strip as much historical context away - so as to make it seem that Bush was/is the agressor.

The state dept is full of liberal fags, who would relish in derailing Bush.

" Bush and his team need to come out fighting hard ASAP."

If we are to lose this thing, it will be precisely because of the attitude in this sentence. Every fringe liberal with access to camera or microphone takes it as his/her personal crusade to attack and belittle.

Conservatives, on the other hand, when given a similar opportunity, invariably come out with something to the effect of "BUSH needs to fight harder"

Our pundits and spokesmen (yes, and thee 'n me) need to get out of this "Not my job" attitude and accept this as a personal battle.
