I agree. The protest is not about him either.

He asked everyone to stop because the station employees, who could not control whether or not he was fired, were being inundated and were being prevented from doing their jobs. He said the message had been received at WMAL loud and clear. Trouble is, the ultimate decision was not made at the station itself but at ABC/Disney.
