PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia -- Andrew Knickle found something he hardly expected - or wanted - after he haggled down the price of a box of sailing tarpaulins to $2.50 at a yard sale.
"It was a kind of a hard, plastic tube with a screw cap that was labeled smallpox vaccine," Knickle said. "It scared me. All kinds of things went through my head, wondering if this could be meant for some evil purpose in this day and age of bioterrorism."
When he shook the package, which bore a label from Connaught Laboratories in Willowdale, Ontario, and an expiration date of 1973, it was evident that something was inside, he said.
"Usually something like this is under tight control, and I think it's very unusual that it popped up in a box of tarps," Knickle said.
Northern Health Authority officials retrieved the still-sealed vial.

Bonehead doesn't know the difference between virus and vaccine. Sheesh.
Neither does the MSM, apparently.
The slightest unusual thing, and some people just lose it. They freak out over NOTHING.
My wife would have it on bookshelf. Another proud find at a garage sale . ARGH !!!!
I think I would like your wife - junkers unite!
My wife has a scar on her shoulder from just such a vaccination administered in the late 1960's.
Vaccines are so scary.
Idiot.
I still have that little round scar on my shoulder from it when I was a kid, so does my wife on her leg.
Smallpox vaccine creates a topical infection. As you might well remember, the vaccine created an open sore, which then scarred. A precaution was given that the sore could infect others. The only serious malady would be to get it or the transferred infection into the eyes. Even though full blown smallpox would not result, blindness would be a probable outcome.
No doubt. The follow up story later in the week will include an interview with his lawyer, laying out his lawsuit against the operator of the garage sale, the vaccine manufacturer, distributor, and the local and state governments for post-traumatic stress, lost wages, nightmares, destruction of his marrage, and unspecified punitive damages.
Now, now. Give the mouthbreathing journalists a break. It's August, a slow news cycle, and they can only find so much to distract them from reporting on real news stories, like Able Danger.
There are only so many Natalie Holloways and Cindy Sheehans out there, y'know.
I heard on the news the other day that a TV studio where a soap opera was being taped had to be evacuated and a HazMat crew was dispatched to the scene. It seems someone on the set had broken a thermometer.
If it was a soap opera set, it had to be rectal.
That doesn't mean it is harmless. It is a live virus and can cause serious side effects especially if it gets in the eyes.
gross.. thanks a lot.
The photos are located on the CDC website. Considering how lightly some of the Freepers posting on this thread were taking the seriousness of the contents of the vial, I thought it was important to set them straight. LadyDoc, whom I pinged on my previous post has personally observed the effects of vaccinia that was accidentally transferred to cancer patients. It is very dangerous to expose anyone who has a weakened immune system to the smallpox vaccine.
