Although I'm not trying to nit-pick, shouldn't a person going through boot camp be a PRIVATE?

Although I'm not trying to nit-pick, shouldn't a person going through boot camp be a PRIVATE? Nope. I went through Basic Training with a lot of guys ranked as high as SPECIALIST (E-4). You can get that on your initial enlistment agreement if you have a college degree.

See #15, also you can be bumped up a pay grade or two (depending on the branch of service) for having attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
You see, our Armed Forces recognize and reward folks who show incentive in other areas and excel. BTW, those enlistment advantages are not new.

No. Because he is a college grad, he either chooses to enter the service as an officer (OCS ect.) or an E-2. The Army may have some kind of special thing going where he can be granted PFC or E-3 I dunno???
