Venezuelan President Threatens U.S. With an Oil Embargo

Caracas, Venezuela (AHN) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatens to cut off oil exports to the United States, after tensions between the two countries mount.

During a recent speech in Caracas, President Chavez denounced the "aggressive" actions of the U.S. government against the South American country, threatening that Venezuelan oil "instead of going to the United States, could go elsewhere."

Tensions between the two countries have risen after Venezuela stopped assisting the U.S. in their War against Drugs.

In response, the U.S. canceled the military visas of Venezuelan military personnel, working with U.S. anti-drug agencies. Venezuela then deported U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officials.

Currently, Venezuela controls the largest oil reserves in South America, making it the world's fifth largest oil producer.

Current estimates say Venezuela exports almost 1.3 million barrels a day to the United States

Just my humble opinion, but Hugo Chavez deserves a worm farm. Oh, well . . . Not for me to worry.

If Bush was really as power mad as the left-wing nutjobs think he is, Presidente Chavez would be cleaning latrines at Gitmo.

As to quote William Wallace played by Mel Gibson...."Are we ready for a war?

But in all seriousness, it is time to unleash the technological might of the US and get us to technologies that do away with the use of oil or greatly reduce its use.

A good way to start is with hydbrid vehicles. And using flywheels, electric motors, sterling engines, hydrogen technologies and all the other types of technologies put on the shelf by the government to support the oil companies.

Yes, Hugo, it would be real smart for you to impede in any way you can the world's greatest producer of food, medical research, and technologicl advancement from doing so.

Cutting of his nose to spite his face.

It's ok.

We just won't be able to export as much food without the oil to drive our farm machinery.

Oh well.

Enjoy your upcoming famine, Hugo.

Chavez has the luxury of blackmail because his people already live in thatch roof huts and turn out their daughters at age 12. It's not like their standard of living could go down.

There is one world price for oil. Chavez can ship wherever he wants; we'll buy from the international markets, and tankers will move from port to port. Prices will remain the same.

An embargo is symbolism only, unless Chavez can get the Norwegians, Mexicans, Canadians, and Nigerians to not ship us oil.

OK, Chavez embargoes oil to US, we should:

1.) Forbid US companies to sell anything to Venezuela
2.) Expel their embassy staff
3.) Assess any additional punitive measures
4.) Assist any enemies of Chavez or fund insurgency against him. Worked in the past, will work now.
