U.S. soldiers bring toys -- and smiles -- to the young patients during a visit to the Baghdad hospital.
CAMP TIGERLAND, Iraq, Aug. 15, 2005 Task Force Baghdad soldiers spent part of the day July 31 bringing smiles to a Baghdad childrens hospital during a humanitarian aid mission.
U.S. Army Command Sgt. Major James Mays, from Pineville, La., senior enlisted noncommissioned officer of the 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division; and Lt. Col. (Dr.) Joseph Dore, from Charlotte, N.C., brigade surgeon, hosted the mission at the General Childrens Hospital in Baghdad, bearing toys and stuffed animals for young cancer patients.
"The 256th (Brigade Combat Team) soldiers go above and beyond the call of duty to bridge the gap between America and Iraq, which only proves theyre a cut above the rest. U.S. Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Joseph Dore attribution
The medical staff also received several reference manuals from Dore, who coordinated numerous medical and civil affair projects across the area of operations.
Outside the hospital, a father clutched his ill daughter on his hip and wept as he approached Mays. The family was stranded without a way to pay for transportation back to Mosul, after they journeyed to Baghdad and visited Abul-Qader Gailany Mosque and prayed for a miracle to cure the child.
When the daughters health worsened, she was admitted to General Childrens Hospital. The financial burden was too great for the family to manage.
Mays and other 256th Brigade Combat Team soldiers did not hesitate to pass a collection plate to aid the Iraqi family stranded miles from home.
"The 256th (Brigade Combat Team) soldiers go above and beyond the call of duty to bridge the gap between America and Iraq, which only proves theyre a cut above the rest, Dore said.
Probably will lead the news tonight huh?
Man if it werent for the internet nothing would be known about these kinds of things.
This can't be true...
According to Cindy Sheehan on Hardball tonight...Iraq has NO food, NO water, NO electricity, NO medicine and NO doctors or hospitals...
HMMM...do you think Cindy might be a little bit WRONG!
BTW, she said that right before Chrissy asked her if she was going to run for Congress because "she knows more about Iraq than most of our Congress people do"...she said NO she wasn't going to run, because she is a one issue person and the only issue she is an EXPERT in, is Iraq.
THank you for posting this wonderful story---as I was reading it, I almost reached for my purse to grab my checkbook for those poor people...now I need to send some money for out troops...what wonderful people they are!!!
I have another two words strung together, one beginning first with an S and an H in the middle, to describe "THAT WOMAN."
I posted this on another thread, and I am going to repeat it because of the story in this thread...
I am really kind of thankful for Cindy Sheehan---because I think what she is doing is reminding people like myself, who have always been on the side of our military and our national security...and I have listened too President Bush's speeches about the need to change the face of the Middle East...
BUT, with all of the "hoopla" surrounding Washington, Supreme Courts, Karl Rove, etc...one "forgets" that right now, the most important thing for this country is to make this work in Iraq...
and the ONE thing that we in our homes can do, is make sure that the morale of the troops stays up by letting them know we are with them...
AND, I hope that when Congress gets back in session in September, that all of us will have contacted our Senators and Representatives to REMIND THEM that we are out here and that their actions better keep those troops in mind...
(off my soapbox) he he
BTTT!!!!!!
