My questions are diretly pertinent to the federal government, and I think they are questions that should be seriously asked. The reason for this is I think the whole 'seal the border' stuff is just a total waste of time unless the government takes certain steps to 'tweak' certain aspects when it comes to border control.

For example, why in goodness name does the IRS hand out ITINs? ITINs stand for the 'Individual Taxpayer Identification Number,' which in essence is a number given to be who do not have, or are not eligible, for a social security number. And not only that, but they are issued without regard of immigration status. Oh, guess what else! One doesn't even have to show up to get an ITIN! And why does the IRS offer these numbers? So that the people who 'are not eligible for SSNumbers' can pay their taxes. Goodness, in applying for one a person doesn't even need to show a passport or visa. Just two documents, even foreign documents, for example a foreign driving license and a foreign ID card, in whcih case you can just send notarized copies through the mail (again you never need to show up). Who do you think utilizes ITINs?

Anyways, there is a lot of ranting about how Mexicans are sneaking across the broder and all that stuff. However I would say our governemnt is more complicit in that than they are. In a much longer post some weeks back I gave the analogy of a homeowner placing ads in the media about how much money he has laying around in his house. And then he leaves his door ajar, plus his windows wide open. And not only that, but he leaves soft-soled shoes at the foot of the door with instructions for thieves to wear them since they will enable them to walk quietly when they get in. And not only that but the homeowner even has instructions no the best way to get around the house so as to expedite things. Question: Who is more responsible? The thief or the homeowner? Well, both are responsible, but it could be argued that the homeowner is bringing this upon himself. In much the same way the whole border situation will never change unless the government tends to itself first. Both sides of congress generally do not want to do anything about it, business lobbyists do not want anything done about it, and the same rants you hear now are the same you will be hearing 15 years from now since nothing will be done. Unless government takes steps. Which you can be cash money they will not.

i agree with you whole heartedly spetsnatz. I think our government is very culpable in this whole thing. I don't blame some of them for trying to get in the easy way. When we are seeing Mexican military escorting packs of drug smugglers 25 miles inside our borders, I think we have a right to know what our government plans on doing about it.
