When Jeanine F. Pirro, the Republican district attorney from Westchester County, announced her decision this week to try to topple Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic senator from New York, her battle cry was this: Do not let Mrs. Clinton fool you, she really wants to be president.
Ms. Pirro was raising an issue that has come up frequently in New York - a state that has produced more than its share of presidential candidates - and one Mrs. Clinton has faced before. But if history is any guide, New Yorkers tend not to worry much about voting for politicians viewed as having grander national ambitions.
In one example, voters knew that Robert F. Kennedy had hoped to be President Lyndon B. Johnson's running mate before he chose instead, in August 1964, to seek a Senate seat from New York. Though Mr. Kennedy, like Mrs. Clinton, faced questions on the campaign trail about being a carpetbagger (he spent much of his childhood in the Bronx but had a Virginia address just weeks before announcing; Mrs. Clinton is a native of Illinois), he won the seat and seemed to suffer no backlash when he threw his hat into the presidential ring in 1968.
Still, Ms. Pirro's offensive seems to be sticking, said Kieran Mahoney, one of her political advisers. He said Democrats "clearly feel that Pirro is hitting home because of their actions," which he said included Bill Clinton's recent recital, in a television interview, of a family rule: Do not look past the next election or you might not get past the next election.
In the long run, though, several political analysts said that of all the complaints voters might have about Mrs. Clinton, her potential presidential aspirations were not likely to be high on the list.

Before Hillary ran, there was a strong rumor that JFK jr was going to run, and long ago RFK thought about running as a NY senator.
This state does not care where your from, they are as partisian as you can get.
What a surprise. The NY Times carrying the water for Hillary. They should charge her for being her publicity machine.

mob is scrambling to find ways to handle it. Billy a

contemptuous condescension.

No doubt the NYT called Hillary HQ and said "Don't worry we'll handle this one"
The Times' target demographic is the poofters who would vote for the Hildabeast. Don't see someone being swayed one iota by a Times advertorial. It is preaching to the secular choir.

Yeah, but, he LIVED there! He wasn't a "native" because he was, uh, born in D.C. His, uh, dad was President.
Seriously, he spent most of his life in NY, schooling, etc., living with Jackie on Fifth Avenue...lots of talk of becoming a senator....
And then his plane went down. Hmmmm....
I'm not into consiracy theories, but I do know for a fact, that he was going to run for senate.
If you are into conspiracies, then you should know that his uncle (teddy boy) actually did encourage him as his cousin also did.
The Cuomo family also was ready to back him.
When Hillary declared, most of the people at his magazine ("george") didn't think he was going to not run, but wondered how ugly the primary was going to get (One of my former friends girlfriend worked there briefly, she also claimed that they told her he cheated on his 3rd try to pass the bar exam....and she had details).
When he died, alot of democrats took it hard, but it was no secret that he was going to run for office, not so ironically, he was probably more conservative then Hillary.
I only met him once, ever, he was a nice and friendly guy, we talked for 2 or 3 minuits. Outside of his hatred of Sen. Spector, he really wasn't that partisan or ideological....unlike his cousins.
I know it's not new, and I know it was leveled against RFK, but as a Southerner, I still get a little chuckle out of Yankees calling newcomers "carpetbaggers."
Why do we need more crooks, liars and thieves in government. I thought we were trying to clean that up?
Hillary Clinton we know is all of those things; but why should Pirro get the nod? Doesn't she have the wrong kind of baggage too?
Perhaps Ms. Pirro shouldn't go for any late-night walks in the park.
