Ky. Governor Subpoenaed Over State Hiring (Ernie Fletcher)

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Gov. Ernie Fletcher has been subpoenaed to appear before a special grand jury investigating his administration's hiring practices, the attorney general's office confirmed Friday.

Nine current or former members of Fletcher's administration have been indicted on misdemeanor charges alleging violations of the state's Merit System personnel law.

The indictments allege that they routinely plotted to circumvent the law requiring that state personnel decisions, including who gets hired for state jobs, fired or promoted, be made on the candidates' merits rather than on their political influence or support.

Fletcher's name has appeared in e-mails presented to the grand jury, but the governor himself has not been accused of wrongdoing.

Attorney general's spokeswoman Vicki Glass declined to provide details about the governor's subpoena Friday beyond saying that he had been summoned to appear before the grand jury on Aug. 30.

Fletcher's office declined to comment.

The special grand jury has already summoned most of Fletcher's top staff. Several staff members made only brief appearances and exercised their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

The Republican governor has been sharply critical of the special grand jury investigation, which is being operated by Attorney General Greg Stumbo, a Democrat.

Fletcher and others in the GOP have accused Stumbo of trying to further his own political ambitions, though Stumbo recently denied any interest in challenging Fletcher in the 2007 election.

Attorney General Greg Stumbo, a Democrat, is the highest elected 'RAT in the Kentucky State Government...this "NEWS" is nothing more than "more political dirty tricks", the Liberal Louisville Currier Journal/Lexington Herald Leader Newspapers will amplify this political slander.

They'll have the cameras ready to go to film and photograph him going in and out of the grand jury - just like Stumbo tipped the press off to exact times search warrants were being served so the press could be there to photograph and film the items being removed.

Listening to you two, it sounds to me like Stumbo is more of a producer, allowing our Fletcher to be the main actor?
What is this a reality show?

Seems a lil weary to me as well!

I haven't been playing extremely close attention but it seems that the Democrat Attn General got one complaint, launched an investigation at the same time and called a press conference the next day.

Apparently the Fletcher administration didn't follow the previous administrations policy of giving jobs for sex.

Yeah, All too clear...This "Stinkin' Liberal DemocRat" is playing it, for all its worth...

To Hell with real crime and justice, there are political foes (the real criminals in their tiny Democratic Party mind/eyes) to vanquish, just prior to the elections, next year.

Maybe...Greg "Robespierre/Agranov/Yagoda" St(D)umbo should be "even more" transparent and "dress-out" in Assassins' Garb (w/ no hood) and Sword/Dirks for the LMSM Press...it is a (Soviet Style) Political Show Trial/Theater, after all.
