Chambliss: We’ll tackle immigration
Gwinnett Daily Post ^ | August 12, 2005 | Dave Williams

LAWRENCEVILLE — Congress needs to find middle ground on immigration reform between deporting illegal immigrants and giving them a blanket amnesty, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss said Thursday. The Senate will take up competing bills on the issue when lawmakers return after Labor Day from their August recess, the Georgia Republican said during a meeting with Gwinnett Daily Post reporters and editors. “We can’t simply close our borders. We don’t have the manpower to do that,” he said. “If (illegal immigrants) are here for the right reason, let’s figure out some kind of accommodation.” With the tide of illegal immigration into Georgia and other parts of the nation showing no signs of receding, the issue is expected to be on the front burner in next year’s congressional elections. At the state level, lawmakers who introduced several bills aimed at illegal immigrants this year are vowing to push aggressively for their enactment during the 2006 General Assembly session starting in January.

Is there a middle ground between lawlessness and defending the security of his country ?

When someone starts out by saying what we "can't" do, he really means what he doesn't want to do.

Accommodation. The GOP immigration policy. How about cocktail peanuts and a comp. beverage upon entry, as long as they are here for the right reasons, you know, like to work illegally, not pay taxes, spooge off our social services and then leave.

I know this has been said many times before, but how about enforcing the law?

Time to abolish the Congress......

This guy is a kook.

If I break the law....they don't seek an "accomodation" with me.

We've lost our country to the invader...it's that simple.

Nobody has the courage to put a stop to lawlessness.

One man stands alone in the wilderness....

Tancredo is a patriot....the only one left in Congress......

Damn them all to hell!!!

It is completely disingenous to use words like lawlessness. There are laws and law enforcement officers working very hard to solve this problem. Chambliss is correct when he says we do not have the resurces to shut down the border.

In the eyes of the immigration first crowd U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss is a tratior to the USA and they will do what they can to elect a good rat to replace him.

Anytime immigration is talked about by someone in our govt, you can bet it's pure BS. They don't care. There are a very few exceptions. Otherwise, I repeat, it's pure BS!!!!!

Chambliss is a kook, but you are not? You just called for the abolishing of Congress. Isn't the Congress elected by the people according to the rules of the Constitution? Do you not like the Constitution?

Tancredo is a patriot....the only one left in Congress......

Damn them all to hell!!!

You make a very weak case for your point. In fact I believe most anyone who reads your post will agree your post has only damaged the reader's perception of Tancredo and his sycophants.

I don't buy that for a minute. When have we ever REALLY tried to secure our borders against illegals? If we can defeat the largest standing army in the Persian Gulf area in less than 3 days, we can fix illegal immigration.

We don't want closed borders, we want secure borders - legal immigrants will always be welcome in my book, within reason.

The fact is, is that politicians prefer campaign contributions and vote pandering to national security. The Border Patrol will do the work if properly MANDATED first, then properly funded and equiped.

Really? Can I quote you on that CC? A rat is as good as a Republican. You see no difference?

Please do quote me and be sure to remember that I'm the one who won't be insulted into obedience with democrat style tactics from our border anarchists.

“We can’t simply close our borders. We don’t have the manpower to do that,”

Why do illegals enter through the Arizona desert instead of walking from Tijuana to San Diego? Because the border was closed there except at legal crossing points.

1. The border can be controlled with sufficient manpower.

2. The current manpower isn't sufficient.

3. So by the huge leap in logic, how about appropriating more money to hire more border guards? You can pick up a quick $200 million by canceling that Alaskan bridge to a island containing 50 people.

How bank robbery reform Senator, or embezzlement reform, or tax cheat reform? Shouldn't we come to an "accommodation" with those lawbreakers as well?

It is just unbelievable that a Senator of the US is saying the things he is and they all have to know by now no one's buying their garbage.

"We can’t simply close our borders. We don’t have the manpower to do that,”

In this one statement, he calls into question our sovereignty, the WOD, the fallacy of the WOT... and I guess we might just as well, pack up our troops and equipment from Iraq and Trashcanistan and come home. If we can't cover our own a$$e$, we certainly don't have the right to be the worlds policemen.

For a clue as to what is going on look these Congressmen treat LEGAL immigrants. If they are unwilling to adjust the totals to reflect reality, then it means they want the flow of illegals to continue so business can have workers for coolie wages.
