Ephraim Hershkowitz
The Canadian Embassy in Tel Aviv has confirmed that a Canadian man is among three Jewish activists being detained by Israeli authorities.
The three are suspected of planning attacks to disrupt Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Beginning in mid-August, Israel plans to remove more than 9,000 Jews from settlements in the West Bank and Gaza.
Ephraim Hershkowitz, 22, who holds both Canadian and Israeli citizenship, was detained on Sunday after attending the funeral of a man described as an Israeli army deserter. The man had been beaten to death by a mob last week after killing four Arabs on a bus.
Hershkowitz is being held without charges by the Israeli government.
He and the two others are believed to be members of an outlawed movement that advocates the expulsion of Palestinians as a solution to the Mideast conflict.
The Canadian Embassy says he has not made any request for assistance.

Ping.
There might be comments about the red hair. ...might want to inform some that it's not much more unusual than red hair, itself.

Obviously they are talking about Kach, which is a banned organization in Israel and on the US State Department's list of terrorist organizations. Being at Natan-Zada's funeral also suggests he's a Kach member.

Of course, if he was a Muslim being held, my gov't would be up in arms about it.

He does sound like a Kach member, which is a hideous organization. At the same time, I wish my government would treat all people in this situation equally.
