The liberal oriented Salve Regina College in Newport Rhode Island decided to put on a play and give $2.00 of each ticket to Planned Parenthood. This was to be held on school grounds.
The sister who is principal of the college was forced, for the first performance, and all performances to announce to the audience that the play had to be moved.
The new Bishop of Providence (Most Reverend Thomas J. Tobin), formerly of Bishop of Youngstown of Ohio, learned of this, and apparently would not allow the play to be held on the Salve Regina College property. It was a priest of the Diocese who informed the Bishop.
This necessitated that after the audience was seated for the first performance of the play, to be told by the principal of the College that the play could not be performed on the grounds of the college.
I do not, at this point, know if this is the infamous Vagina Dialogues or some version of it, but it said to be a very raunchy play (according to my source).
As Drudge would post -- story developing...
Right now I am limited on time (lunch break).
ping -- for Catholics and Pro-Lifers to join in.
Only in RI.
You mean you don't think this could not happen in Massachusetts? Or most of the rest of New England(with the possible exception of NH)?
Just kidding. Got your point.
Say, has anyone heard from Buddy Cianci lately? Has he made his own license plate yet?
Of course, the girls like to party with the sailors at the bars down on Thames Street, but wouldn't acknowledge that they even knew us on Parents' weekend...
..now...THAT's... Jesuit Intelligent Theistic Evolution DESIGN THEORY.... in ecumenical-action.
/sarcasm
I guess you have it just as bad as I do. I feel your pain.
Hey!!! My Wife went there!!!!

The Newport Daily News (http://www.newportdailynews.com/) has an article on August 6, 2005 titled:
Link to Planned Parenthood dooms plays at Salve theater
Unfortunately, there are fees for accessing the article, and I am not sure if it can be excerpted.
For those who have access to Newport Daily News website, it should not be hard to find in archives.
I will post a link later if anyone requests it...
It was Planned Parenthood Votes! that was the beneficary of the $2 per ticket.
This was, from the beginning, a fund raiser for Planned Parenthood, I think they tried to switch to the Catholic College because they had no other place to stage it.
Here is the info on the Anne Frank play (one of the 15):

The above was excerpted from the Planned Parenthood article about the plays and about the cancellation.
I don't see how one can make comedy out the life of this poor Jewish girl...
The administration of the college must not have realized how bad these plays were... (Or maybe they did)

Thanks for the info Coleus.
I just don't see it happening anytime soon. We have a RINO Senator in Chaffee, and an electorate (mostly elderly) which is constantly voting for Patches.
OOOPS! Well, I assure you that the vast majority of the Salve Regina ladies were well above cavorting about with sailors. And if your wife's name isn't Adrian, I assue you that you have nothing to worry about.... ;)
She didn't go there in the 60's. She was a 90's grad. One of her best friends was a Navy guy who had just graduated the academy and was stationed in Middletown. He actually came to our wedding. It sounds like it was a fun town to go to college in.
