Maybe it's like that giant waterfall they only now discovered in California.

But morphological, genetic and behavioural data shows they are in fact distinct species which diverged about two million years ago.

Or, perhaps God created them just a few days ago.

You don't think God quite creating stuff after, do ya?

2 million (insert maniacal laugh here) years of evolution, and it takes a genetic study to confirm that we have 2 slightly different species of lemur. But a few weeks ago we were treated to elephants 'evolving' towards tuskless in a matter of a couple dozen years.

Different selective pressures. Moreover, subtle grade changes over time may mask larger clade changes.

Certainly possible, but mtDNA analysis of incidence in random genetic mutations seems to indicate that they diverged from the common mouse lemurs no less than about 2 million years ago. The mtDNA mutation rate is constant and can thus be used to identify speciation dates.

I guess from the article it's not just the waterfall that's been hiding:

There are plenty of natural wonders out there for everybody, he said. For example, he's seen a giant manzanita shrub with a three-foot diameter stump, and he said he may be the only person to know about it.
