Every time they find a new species (which has been happening frequently lately), I can't help wondering how it was missed every time they decided such-and-such a bird/animal/plant/bug/fish/reptile was endangered and there were only 37 left in the world.

Look at the eye sockets on that skull. Makes you wonder where the Roswell aliens have room for their brains. Judging from the external view of their eyes, their eyeballs would have to be the size of grapefruits.

Lemurs are humanity's godson's uncle's cousin's husband.

What do you know about this?

I learned K.P. KOFGS
I also learned to capitilize certain letters.

2 million (insert maniacal laugh here) years of evolution, and it takes a genetic study to confirm that we have 2 slightly different species of lemur. But a few weeks ago we were treated to elephants 'evolving' towards tuskless in a matter of a couple dozen years. Hmmmmm... Probably a good example of punctuated equilibrium for the elephants.
While the lemurs have lived in a relatively stable environment for that long, the elephants have just recently encountered an entirely different evolutionary pressure. Namely, they're shot if they have tusks.
Makes perfect sense.

Exactly right. I remembered what it stood for, I was just curious as to who else would identify it.
OK. How about this one:

Flying lemurs aren't real lemurs; they aren't even real primates. However, they are our closest living non-primate relatives, if you don't consider tree shrews to be actual primates.

Kweel - we need to extract DNA from them so that their species will not vanish - like the carrier pigeons.

Pretty cool, although I think it would be even cooler if they found a living species of the giant non-mouse lemurs, which became extinct shortly after humans first arrived on Madagascar (as usual), or a new species of aye-aye.

Carrier pigeons are still around. It's passenger pigeons which are extinct :(
