Dick Morris speculates that, if Pirro gets within 12 points of Hillary by the end of the year, Hillary will drop out of the race and pursue the Presidency.

He thinks even a close Senate seat win would weaken Hillary's chances for the White House, so she can't take that chance. And she can't afford to invest the $millions in a Senate race with the intention of keeping the seat only 2 years.

[I don't see that she has a choice. If she drops out after 1 Senate term, that would not give her the political experience the general public would want. That was one of the major negatives against Edwards.]

And that will be a huge publicity hoot against her thighness. If Jeanine Pirro makes her cower and duck for cover, she'll not have a prayer to win the Presidency.

Hillary will not withdraw from the senate race. The Dems are not going to give up a sure seat. She would undermine her Presidential ambitions by withdrawing. She could, after winning (I have no doubt she will win), then withdraw ala Dole to work on the Presidential race. If the Dems elect a Dem governor to replace Pataki, he/she could then appoint a Dem to succeed Hillary.

Money is no problem for Hil and Bill. They will raise more money than any Presidential candidate(s) in history. She can easily refill her coffers after the senate race. The Dem primary will be a coronation.
