FORT WORTH, Texas -- An American Airlines plane has been evacuated at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.
An American Airlines MD-80 at D/FW International Airport.Flight 584 from Tucson, Ariz., has landed safely and is surrounded by several fire trucks.
The flight crew reportedly noticed an electrical smell in the Boeing MD-80 plane, which has a capacity of up to 131 people.
Passengers used the rear chute to deplane. The jet, carrying 101 passengers and a crew of five, stopped in a runway area so those on board could slide down the chute.
Buses then hauled passengers from the jet, and transported them to a nearby terminal.
The plane was scheduled to head for Tampa just after 2 p.m.
Airport spokesman David Magana said the flight landed with no problems and nobody was hurt.
American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith says the cause of the odor is sought. He says there was no immediate sign of a fire.
