Women told HRT causes cancer

COMBINATION hormone replacement therapy can cause cancer, the UN's agency on the disease has concluded.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer said yesterday, based on evidence from recent studies, it has reclassified hormonal menopause therapy from "possibly carcinogenic to humans" to "carcinogenic to humans".

The declaration from the World Health Organisation's cancer agency, widely regarded as the international authority on which substances cause cancer, comes after recent research linked HRT to breast cancer.

The analysis found oestrogen and progestogen menopause therapy also increases the risk of endometrial cancer when progestogens are taken fewer than 10 days a month.

The scientists also concluded the combination contraceptive pill, taken by about 10 per cent of women of reproductive age, increases the risk of more types of cancer than previously thought.

The agency had determined the pill can cause liver cancer.

What a LOUSY article......does NOT say what KIND of HRT.....I imagine they are talking about things like Premarin (horses urine) that is given in amounts that keep estrogen levels high for 24 hours in an effort to reduce hot flashes, etc......does NOT address bio-identical creams of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, etc, which probably HELP women tremendously.

I don't know what to think about HRT; I've heard too much conflicting stuff.

I'm avoiding it for as long as I can, until the powers that be figure whether it's going to kill me or not.

I wish it had been more specific, too. I am currently on progesterone gel (natural) due to very low progesterone levels in early pregnancy.

You never saw anyone throw away a bottle of bills so quick as I did when I got the drift of the connection between the synthetic hormones (premarin and progestin) and cancer (I have a baaad family history.) Zippo - gone! I expected the discomfort when I stopped cold turkey (which isn't recommended) and I got it, but I bit the bullet and transitioned to transdermal natural progesterone cream, and it was fine. There's just too much risk.

I'm assuming they mean the standard synthetic cocktail: Premarin and Progestin.

Article is BS. And recent studies on monkeys have shown that the negative effects of common HRT regimens can be avoided by adding testosterone. Problem with most HRT regimens is they are compensating for lower estrogen/progesterone levels in menopausal women, without compensating for lower testosterone levels, thus throwing hormones into proportions that aren't normal at any age.

It's not BS if the current HRT drugs and orthodoxy haven't been implemented to integrate these "recent studies on monkeys," if that's in fact true.

EXACTLY....what YOU said......it's about BALANCING hormones.....and also looking at more than TSH for Thyroid.....i.e. T3, T4......I'll let you know in about a month whether it's working for me.....I've had one helluva BAD year, and it's probably ALL due to hormone depletion and thyroid imbalance.....but the docs just wanted me to be on Rheumatoid drugs......can you tell I'm a little PISSED? I've spent hours doing research.....on my own, and finally found a group of docs who will work to bring things into balance, naturally.

Sandy, I think you'll be waiting a long time for the powers that be to make up their minds.

I've paid attention to this topic for over 30 years and there has never been a conclusion about pharmacutical HRT that sticks.

Every few years there's a new conclusion...not cancer causing, then a few years later...is cancer causing. It's a never ending cycle of conflicting reports and conclusions. Thirty years later and it's still the same game.

There's really nothing new here. The "powers that be" finally had to come clean and big pharma finally had to own up on this one.

Doing your own research and going to natural stuff that eliminates or diminishes side effects is the only way to get on but you need to captain your own health care because Drs. only know how to prescribe whatever pills they are told will help you with your symptoms.

They will also tell you there are no answers in certain cases. They are not always right. What they are saying is that their brand of medical practice hasn't answers.

It is, after all, the PRACTICE of medicine so you need to look for answers elsewhere. We have used homeopathy for some very complicated things, dentistry for a balance problem for a ballet student, apnea and head aches, low level laser for another problem and elctronic detox method for still another.

Our real problem is that the AMA and big pharma runs our medical system so you are a slave to that because they need you to fill their pockets while you get things worse than you started with. It mirrors the NEA running the schools.

My take: how to prescribe whatever pills the multiple pharma reps gift on them .. week in, week out .. (that's after the nurses and staff have been treated to luncheon feasts and other goodies every other day by some company). There's no more incestuous relationship.

Sandy, there are plenty of herbal remedies that help.

I got through menopause just fine by taking a combination of herbs, two of the most helpful were Black Cohosh root and Wild Yam root. The Vitamin Shoppe and GNC which are two of most popular herbal stores on the West coast, will have Brands that combine just the right herbs for that purpose!

I've been using Estroven since I started, and it seems to work wonders. It has Black Cohosh, Soy, and something else that escapes me right now. Except for a few months when my thyroid went whacky, I've been flash-free!

I'm watching my sisters, though. They're both having a great deal of trouble.
