In a July 17 story, Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen of the Washington Post had to admit, in recapping White House statements about the Valerie Plame case, that White House spokesman Scott McClellan was usually careful to disavow involvement "in any illegal leak, though his public statements clearly left an impression of a White House aloof to the affair." This is the key to understanding White House statements about the case and the reported White House role. If you read the transcripts of McClellan's briefings, it is clear that McClellan had denied a White House role in a criminal disclosure of classified information.
But in order to make it seem that the White House was not leveling with the American people or that it was caught in a contradiction, reporters at press briefings misrepresented the McClellan position as one that had denied any White House involvement at all in even mentioning or discussing the case with journalists. But that's of course ridiculous. Officials leak information all the time and many journalists rely on that information. The issue is whether officials were involved in an illegal leak of information. But when McClellan then took the stand that he would not comment any more on the case because of the ongoing investigation, members of the White House press corps descended like sharks in the water, creating the impression that there was a cover-up.

Before the NEW MEDIA took hold, the MSM was so used to not only printing, but manufacturing news the way they wanted it printed and read, and just what they wanted read to support their liberal agenda, that today they simply cannot get away with it --- although they keep trying.
Case in point, the Karl Rove debacle....yes, the MSM just keeps trying to rewrite reality to suit their agenda...
My liberal friends won't even mention this thing. I think even they agree the media has twisted this case around so much that the media bias has finally become clear to them.
The sad thing is that when the independent investigation is finished and made public, the egg on the media's face won't be mentioned at all. We can't let them get away with this.
And they sacrifice one of their own -- to sit in jail -- and they STILL don't get it that they are accomplishing NOTHING.
"What a tangled web we weave," and all that.
And they sacrifice one of their own -- to sit in jail -- and they STILL don't get it that they are accomplishing NOTHING.

Exactly right -- liberalism is truly a disease of the mind.
Yes, like they misrepresented Bush' on saying Saddam had nukes, like they misrepresented Bush on saying that the war ended, like they misrepresented Bush on saying the war would be quick and easy. The whole "Bush Lies" mantra is a creation of the media spinning what Bush said into something else. The reality is "The Media Lies".
They will all cry that the investigation was a white wash. The media is never 'wrong' even when they forge memos. To them the memogate story was still 'accurate, but false'.
Bump (and don't miss the tagline...)
Being a martyr is what liberals live for. They are happy to contribute to the long list of non-conspiraricies that make Bush sound bad when they rattle them all off, even if there is no substance to any of them.
How's this for a national slogan, "Slanted Newsgate won't work in 08".
Never mind guilt or innocence, it's the seriousness of the charge that counts.
The blame on Plame is mainly that it's lame.
I had Hardball on for a few minutes the other day and, Ol' Missy was still spewing that VP Cheney had sent Wilson on this trip! I immediately thought this was a repeat but, it wasnt. Missy just spins events for his own delusions.
The next scandal is going to be "Rove outst 40-year old Housewife."
Tell it to NPR.
Its just part of the Great Liberal Circle Jerk. Matthews says its a scandal and Cambell Brown agrees as does Stephanopolus as does David Gregory and Sen Schumer says its a scandal because Davide Gregory or the NYT or whoever said it was and that this scandal is a HUGE problem for the President as is agreed upon by most of the rest of the dems which, in turn, is reported by David Gregory and covered night after night by Keith Olbernerd who just knows that there is something to this scandal because if there wasn't, why would he keep reporting it and why would Matthews keep covering it and calling it a political liability for the President which has been confirmed by Sen Schumer and Joe Wilson and on and on and on and on and on.
Their logic is flawless to themselves. One liberal listens to another liberal and another. If they think this is a scandal and that there has been a crime then there must be because they say so and they are the only people who they listen to. Those who don't agree with them are just gun toting, jesus freak, racist, sexist, homophobe morons from flyover country.
Same ole same ole from our buddies in the MSM party and the dem party.
Pack journalism at its finest.
"Ol' Missy was still spewing that VP Cheney had sent Wilson on this trip!"
Matthews should know that the CIA sent Wilson on this trip. I would threaten to boycott MSNBC, but I am already boycotting MSNBC.
The MSM specializes in
1. Reporting on polls they generated.
2. Reporting what other reporters have already reported.
Another prime example of this is the Gitmo Korans Flushed Down The Toilets misreporting.
I wouldn't say they've accomplished nothing. They've probably managed to discourage even legal, helpful and innocuous leaks.
The media's Rove insanity is the ultimate proof of their liberal, even nakedly partisan, bias. Here they are arguing directly against their own clear professional interest, virtually demanding that the Whitehouse summarily fire anyone feeding them information!!!
It's an absolutely stunning spectacle.
