Pig-Borne Disease Kills 31 in China Friday, July 29, 2005

Bird Flu May Pose Threat to Humans BEIJING — The death toll in a pig-borne disease in southwestern China rose to 31 on Friday as health officials stepped up preventative measures and tried to reassure the public the government had the epidemic under control.

The disease, blamed on the bacteria streptococcus suis, has swept through dozens of villages in Sichuan province since June, infecting farmers who handled or butchered sick pigs.

So far, 152 confirmed and suspected cases have been found, with 27 people hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Ministry of Health's Web site. Seven patients have been released from the hospital.

Among 27 newly confirmed cases, only six fell ill Thursday, while the rest showed symptoms for several days, the ministry said. They include, fever, nausea, vomiting, bleeding under the skin and, in some cases, meningitis.

When will these people stop sleeping with their animals.

And why would china be so tight lipped about this stuff if it were caused by other than people living in the barns.

In China, 31 dead is statistically insignificant. But not to the families of the dead.

Serves these infidels right for not submitting to AAhlah and his divine Prophet MUCHMED!

If China were part of the Grand Caliphate, swine whould be verbotten, and none of this would have happened, eh? [/s]

Of course, then the rest of the World would be in even deeper doodoo than we already are, wouldn't we?

??{B^*

I don't suppose it would be PC to drop infested swine from 30,000 ft. over Syria or Iran, would it?

- Although I rather doubt that the PLA would hesitate to use such tactics should Jihad try to extend itself into the PRC.

To their somewhat dubious credit, the Chicoms do seem to be a little more pragmatic about that sort of thing than the rest of the "Civilized" World.
