Cheney is not going to run he's looking forward to fly-fishing in Wyoming and spending time with his grandkids. Conservatives should respect his wishes and leave him alone.

I thnk Cheney is very bright. But I have to think America will be feeling fatigued of this crew by 08. Hopefully by then the Iraq War will be over. Who knows where the economy will be.

It was man against boy when Dick Cheney mopped the floor with cutesy pie John Edwards, despite what the media said. As much as I would love it I don't think there is any chance of him running and quite frankly, who can blame him? I don't agree about the frail part though his health would be an issue, during the campaign at least.

Well, I wouldn't want my grandchildren growing up under another Clinton Presidency and if it meant the grandkids have to come visit me in the White House, I think that this is one of those historical times where you have to put aside personal wishes to help out the greater good (kind of like in the Incredibles). He can still flyfish in August in Wyoming (wouldn't the press go nuts having to cover another President from a non-urban town)

"I was greatly amused how Cheney ravaged Edwards during the debate"

It wasn't even close. The silky pony was made to look like airhead that he is. He was demolished. I still have the tape, I will pull it out tonight and rewatch with a bowl of popcorn.
I love Cheney. I would have a 180 degree different opinion of govt workers if they were like Cheney.

Cheney's support of the 2A is the main reason I voted for Bush in 2000. He'd get my vote for POTUS.

I was greatly amused how Cheney ravaged Edwards during the debate - my favorite alltime comeback during a debate was when Joe Liberman said "my wife wished I would go into public life and make the kind of money you made at Halliburton" - Cheney shot back - Joe, we are doing what we can to make that possible.

...What does it take to get a really qualified republican to run for President?...

I no longer believe in the existence of such a thing.

I would no longer vote republican even for Cheney, who I used to admire.

Cheney doesn't want to run.

Accept his right after years of service in that town of weasels to want to retire and live among real people for a change.

I remember that -- what a great line. Cheney is razor sharp. Of all the debates in the last two elections, both for VP and P, the Cheney/Lieberman debate was the best, IMO. The candidates were a good match for each other, the discussion was substantive, and even though the intensity was high the tone stayed civil.

Suppose Cheney were to retire before the end of his term....Whom would W select to be the VP, thereby tacitly endorsing him or her to be the nominee?

How about Rice/Cheney? Is there anything stopping Dick Cheney from staying on as VP?

I believe the exact line was , "Joe, we're here to see that you do."

Your version is in error. Cheney did not suggest himself.

Cheney won't go wobbly as some of the leading GOP candidates might. He would be a tried and true continuation of the Bush Doctrine as well as total access and support from the awesome election machinery.
