Seems to me they shouldn't be able to get a felony expunged. What about child molesters, sex crimes, murder, etc.?

My understanding is that felonies cannot be expunged. I think it's aimed at stupid misdemeanors committed while young and stupid.

Why should sex offenders, rapists, and murderers be out to begin with? A lot of thought and trouble is going into the problem of how do we keep our children safe when the answer is obvious. Child sex offenders just do not get out, for instance.

But, noooooooo, we can't do that.

most states have standards for some form of expungment and some have it limited to ONE case.

Thus ONE indiscretion in early life can be removed.

HOWEVER, if you apply for some sentive job or apply to be a lawyer you have to disclose the expunged offense. (and while there is no record after expungement, there is a record of the expungement.)

It makes sense for CERTAIN crimes to be expungable if the person has earned redemtion by their deeds.
