VICTORIA The Texas leader of the Minuteman volunteer border patrol group has resigned, saying the chapter lacks structure and claiming racist tendencies among members from his area, a newspaper reported.
Bill Parmley, a Goliad County landowner who heads the Texas chapter of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, resigned by e-mail Monday in a letter to Chris Simcox, the group's national president, and Goliad County Sheriff Robert DeLaGarza, the Victoria Advocate reported in today's editions.
The Minuteman group drew national attention earlier this year for its volunteer patrols of the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. It is planning similar patrols in Texas this fall, and Simcox said the resignation would not change those plans.
Parmley, who lives in the tiny Goliad County town of Sarco, accused members of working to undermine DeLaGarza because he is Hispanic. He also said the group was holding secret meetings without him in violation of the bylaws.
"The Sarco group has chosen to go a different course than what I feel is in the best interest of the organization nationally and locally," Parmley said in an interview with the Advocate.
Kenneth Buelter, the Sarco group's vice president, denied both accusations. He said a meeting with District Attorney Mike Sheppard questioned DeLaGarza's use of felons on work details but had nothing to do with the Minuteman group or other immigration issues. Sheppard declined to discuss details of the meeting.
DeLaGarza said he was unaware of efforts to undermine his authority.
"The community itself will not tolerate racism in Goliad County," he said.
If Minuteman members should step out of line, "the community is going to come down on those people, not us," DeLaGarza said.
Buelter said he was surprised by Parmley's resignation but acknowledged recent differences of opinion. He declined to elaborate.
I don't know but if it comes from AgitProp and The Commie-cal, I'd take it all with a grain of salt.
Not many quotes, eh?
We just can't seem to stay on track.
The most motivated anti illegal immigrant people, are likely to be racist sobs. There are plenty of anti illegal immigrant supporters who are not racist. But the ones who are motivated enough to be minutemen are going to tend to be more racially motivated.
I would not take it all with a grain of salt.
Actually, I'd heard something similar about those chapters being riddled with racists. Those freaky white supremacists groups had to be told to stop joining.
Remember - it's 'racist' to protest our borders. Like, it would've been 'racist' and 'racial profiling' to arrest the 9/11 terrorists before they took action. What say you, Colleen Rowley, American hero? Is it 'racist' to protect our borders?
Hasn't DeLaGarza been trying to shut down the minutemen from the start? I thought the sheriff was sympathetic to the illegals. Maybe Parmley just wasn't up to the job.
Uh the minutemen are self-destructing.

Hmm, what have some said all along.
"There is plenty of anti black sentiment around the world and china may have more of it than most. And some of it is justified."
The possibility exists, they did not provide a quote. I don't need AP's editorializing.
The KKK supported the government against David Koresh in Waco. That was not a big part of that story in any national report.
I was wondering how long the minutemen would be infiltrated by leftists. Its their modus operandi!
And don't try that racist crap on me, some of my ancestors were here long before yours planted your sorry tails here. Americans did not fight and die just so people like you could sell our country out to the highest bidder.
Uh you do know that in the political circle that the rabid leftists and rabid rightists meet at the same point.
robert byrd(d-WV), being the most glaring case in point.
Can you please explain why do you keep making 'uh' sounds?
It's like resigning because some members of the group have livers.
Are you a liar or just a knee-jerk drama queen lacking reading comprehension? In his post you responded to he clearly said:
There are plenty of anti illegal immigrant supporters who are not racist.
Your response is just that sort of dishonesty and vitriolic hyperbole that gives anti-illegal immigration groups a bad name, smearing most of the good people by the actions of the few rabid fools. You prove his point again and again.
And facts are that there are way too many racist posts on the anti-illegal immigration threads on FR. A shame, because they are not representative of most who are for tightening our borders, but the babbling fools get the attention and give the media ammo to paint the worst possible picture.
I think there's some Ross Perot-ism going on here--too many strong-willed people pulling in too many directions, which will ultimately destroy the organization. Simcox needs to, IMO, exert some strong leadership and get all his local leaders on the same page, and, in turn, the local leaders need to get their people on the same page. Anyone that doesn't want to play according to Chris' rules can either (a) go home, or (b) start their own group.
Racist in the MinuteMen Organization??
Communists in the Democart Party??
Wonder why this happens?
