I wonder if any of the ZOTTED threads we've seen over the last few days have been Larry's?

We were talking about him on the Sunday Talk Shows News Thread. I did a little research an posted it on that thread and put a link to it on the VIPS thread.
One thing I saw that I thought was interesting is that it appears ol' Larry went to CIA school with our gal Val.

Interesting. I'm trying to figure out what his actual expertise is. Anyone can spend 4 years as an analyst at the CIA and not come out as an "expert" in much of anything. The CIA is a government ogranization, where a lot of promotion, etc. is based on tenure rather than merit. If he went to the CIA after college, and spent 4 years there: 1) He might not even have worked on Terrorism issues, 2) He might have just been a low level analyst who, certainly many years later, wouldn't have any more knowledge than you or I on the issues.

This reminds me of some of the weird freepmails that a few of us got after the exposure of the al Fuqra outpost near Clovis.

I think those freepmails came well over a year after the compound was closed.

You're right - hard to tell about how qualified he is from his work at the CIA - he basically says he established himself as a 'proflific analyst' at CIA; however, apparently he had a semi-decent job at State. Interesting that he only spent a few years in each dept. I'm surprised he didn't make more out of a 'govenment career'. Did he leave because he was asked to, or, because he had such a high opinion of himself that he thought he could make more $ on his own on the outside? In case you (or others) haven't seen it, here's what it says on the Berg associates web site:

From 1989 until October 1993, Larry Johnson served as a Deputy Director in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Counter Terrorism. He managed crisis response operations for terrorist incidents throughout the world and he helped organize and direct the US Government’s debriefing of US citizens held in Kuwait and Iraq, which provided vital intelligence on Iraqi operations following the 1990 invasion of Kuwait. Mr. Johnson also participated in the investigation of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am 103. Under Mr. Johnson’s leadership the U.S. airlines and pilots agreed to match the US Government’s two million-dollar reward.

From 1985 through September 1989 Mr. Johnson worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. During his distinguished career, he received training in paramilitary operations, worked in the Directorate of Operations, served in the CIA’s Operation’s Center, and established himself as a prolific analyst in the Directorate of Intelligence.

My guess is he spent more than 4 years with the CIA, perhaps a lot more. His current resume says he taught from 79 to 83 then joined the CIA in 85. His previous resume says he worked in Argentine from 83 to 85 building something (compare Mar 00 and Mar 01 resumes here: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.berg-associates.com/larryc.htm)

Also some random freeper says he worked for the CIA in the 80's: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1446721/posts?page=160#160

So, he starts out in Operations, and winds up in intelligence? That's interesting. I wonder why he didn't stay in operations?

Look at the Mar 2000 version of Larry's resume for more historical details, see my post 55.

Just got a post from Tony Snow

M, Turley's wife had a baby yesterday. He wisely has turned off his cellphone for a few days. I'll have some stuff to say about the controversy in the next hour, though. I talked with the White House about it yesterday. As for the ex-CIA nuts, I'm going after the Larry Johnson Brigades tomorrow.

Come on over to the Tony Snow thread, you can link to his radio show from there. Tpny is on the AIR AMERICA story right now.
