Allowing the blind, crippled, deaf, and illiterate would also boost recruitment. And I'm sure that there are jobs that each could theoretically do.

But to weaken standards like that just for numbers would weaken the military to the point of ineffectiveness.

We'd also boost recruitment if we let people who weren't citizens, or foreign nationals join the army.

We've done that for close to a century, with great success.
