FRC Rejects Senator Durbin's Religious Litmus Test

WASHINGTON, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, reported today in an LA Times op-ed that Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill) asked Judge John Roberts last week "what he would do if the law required a ruling that his church considers immoral." Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement: ADVERTISEMENT

"Last April, I called on viewers and listeners who joined our nationwide simulcast -- 'Justice Sunday - Stopping the Filibuster Against People of Faith,' to contact their senators and urge them to oppose the unconstitutional use of religious litmus tests. Unfortunately, Senator Durbin has chosen to ignore the Constitution and is seeking to impose a religious litmus test on Judge John Roberts.

I know this is a partisan news release, not a legitimate news story, but I think it's important background on why Durbin refuted Jonathan Turley's article describing what Roberts said to Durbin in the meeting.

Durbin just can't stay out of trouble, and now he's really stepped in it. He betrayed the confidence of a private meeting. His people allegedly quoted, most likely misquoted Roberts, and now Durbin....once again, has to do the CYA DC Dance,

The Democrats were hit once awhile back with the "no Catholics need apply" mark, can't recall which incident prompted that. I hope the Republicans do something about it this time.
