DC RADIO HOST SAYS 'ISLAM IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION' CAIR calls on WMAL to reprimand Michael Graham for 'hate-filled' remarks
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/25/05) - A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called on a Washington, D.C., radio station to reprimand a talk show host who states repeatedly that "Islam is a terrorist organization." The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also urged American Muslims to contact the station's advertisers to express their concerns about the host's Islamophobic views.
CAIR says it received complaints today from Muslim listeners who heard WMAL-AM's (www.wmal.com) Michael Graham state: 1. "Islam is a terrorist organization." 2. "Islam is at war with America." 3. "The problem is not extremism. The problem is Islam." 4. "We are at war with a terrorist organization named Islam."
When contacted by CAIR, WMAL's Program Director Randall Bloomquist said he stands behind Graham. He said that while WMAL would not permit the use of the "N-word" or anti-Semitic slurs, Graham's remarks do not require disciplinary action.
"Such hate-filled and inflammatory remarks only serve to encourage those who would turn bigoted views into violent or discriminatory actions against ordinary American Muslims," said CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. "Reasoned discussion on issues related to terrorism should be encouraged, but extremist anti-Muslim rhetoric harms our nation's image worldwide and serves as a recruiting tool for terrorists."
Hooper said CAIR is asking American Muslims and other people of conscience to contact WMAL advertisers and express their concerns about Graham's remarks.
Last year, CAIR challenged on-air remarks by Graham that seemed to make an implicit call for violence against Muslims. He said: "I don't wanna say we should kill 'em all [Muslims], but unless there's reform [within Islam], there aren't a lot of other solutions that work in the ground struggle for survival." (Graham later claimed he was only referring to so-called "Islamists," but the context of the quote indicated otherwise.)
Graham also said: "Would you hire an Arab-Muslim group for a friend's daughter's Bat Mitzvah, I wouldn't, if you would you're a dope, that's not bigotry, that completely reasonable smart discrimination." This is the second time they've come after me. The last time CAIR inserted the word "Muslim" in a quote of mine when they knew I was specifically talking about Islamist extremists. I refuted their ridiculous attacks in print (including here on FreeRepublic.com), and CAIR went away.
This time they're playing hardball. Management at my radio station is feeling serious pressure. We'll see what happens.
But CAIR is after my job, no doubt about it. They'd rather attack me than talk about the six CAIR folks who've either been convicted of links to terrorism, deported or are currently at large evading the police. Or maybe they're not interested in talking about defending Hamas or Hizbullah?
Whatever their motive, CAIR complaining about "hate speech" is like Saddam Hussein complaining about his jail cell.

So what is the problem with islam?
Saudi Arabia - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bibles are illegal. Churches are illegal.
Yemen - Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims and forbids conversions. The Government does not allow the building of new non-Muslim places of worship.
Kuwait - Registration and licensing of religious groups. Members of religions not sanctioned in the Koran may not build places of worship. Prohibits organized religious education for religions other than Islam.
Egypt - Islam is the official state religion and primary source of legislation. Accordingly, religious practices that conflict with Islamic law are prohibited. Muslims may face legal problems if they convert to another faith. Requires non-Muslims to obtain what is now a presidential decree to build a place of worship.
Algeria - The law prohibits public assembly for purposes of practicing a faith other than Islam. Non-Islamic proselytizing is illegal, and the Government restricts the importation of non-Islamic literature for distribution.
Jordan - Has the death penalty for any Muslim selling land to a Jew.
Sudan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death.
Pakistan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims. Christians regularly put in prison for charges of blasphemy.
What could possibly give anyone the idea that Islam has anything to do with terror?
Where do we send support, in what form, and when is the show on?
I think just about every single talk show host is condemning members of the Islamic faith right now, exposing it for what it is, a fascist society not unlike communisma and asking for racial profiling.
The responsibility is for them, Muslims, to prove that these accusations are untrue not to blame the name callers.

Could you explain why you think the problem is not extremism, it is all of Islam?
I think IslamoFascism makes up only 15% of that religion.

Well, you could fragment and nuance -
Instead of Islam, use salafi islam, wahahabis, saudi islam, or get really obscure and go the Hambali/Deobandi school of Sunni islam, you could call it Quttubi islam, or Mawdudi sunni islam....
It'll be accurate and they really have no retort.

From what I see, you did NOT lie.
Hooper has no interest in reasoned discussion on issues (i.e., Islam) related to terrorism. Islam is the problem, whether or not you have some muslims that do not actually go out and bomb innocents to smitherines. He should be forced to prove you wrong rather than trotting out the usual whine about people being inflamed to bop someone on the head. They have gotten away with this waaayyy too long.
