Store owner just wants Betty Boop's head back

VIRGINIA BEACH — Betty Boop: beheaded.
Her body found lying with an exposed pipe protruding from her neck.
No witnesses. No suspects. No head.
"Without it, she's nothing," said Larry Estes, owner of Cool & Eclectic Furniture and Fashions at 3716 Shore Drive, where the life-size Betty Boop statue worth $1,600 had greeted passersby for years.
A patron discovered the headless Boopster early Sunday morning, a block from the store. "I'm sure a lot of people saw her like that," Estes said. "That's not good." He quickly carried the battered Betty to the storeroom. Then "we searched for the head up and down Shore Drive."
They found no noggin.
"Who would do this?" Estes asked. "I'll never find a head like that again." He filed a police report Friday . Estes has a bounty on Betty's big head: "I'm willing to give them something free from the store if they bring the head back."
Customers are ticked. "It was their mascot," said Meg Turco, who has shopped at the store for two years. "That's how people recognized the place. People are sick."
Lately, Betty Boop has had bad luck.
Hurricane Isabel two years ago tossed the famed character down Shore Drive, severing limbs and crushing her head.
"From heel to head, I had to reconstruct her," Estes said. The restored Betty made her debut a month ago.
"She's made a lot of people smile," Estes said. "We just want her head back."
