And Then They Came After Us(Victor Davis Hanson gets it!)
National Review Online ^ | July 22, 2005 | Victor Davis Hanson

First the terrorists of the Middle East went after the Israelis. From 1967 we witnessed 40 years of bombers, child murdering, airline hijacking, suicide murdering, and gratuitous shooting. We in the West usually cried crocodile tears, and then came up with all sorts of reasons to allow such Middle Eastern killers a pass.

Yasser Arafat, replete with holster and rants at the U.N., had become a “moderate” and was thus free to steal millions of his good-behavior money. If Hamas got European cash, it would become reasonable, ostracize its “military wing,” and cease its lynching and vigilantism.

When some tried to explain that Wars 1-3 (1947, 1956, 1967) had nothing to do with the West Bank, such bothersome details fell on deaf ears.

When it was pointed out that Germans were not blowing up Poles to get back lost parts of East Prussia nor were Tibetans sending suicide bombers into Chinese cities to recover their country, such analogies were caricatured.

When the call for a “Right of Return” was making the rounds, few cared to listen that over a half-million forgotten Jews had been cleansed from Syria, Iraq, and Egypt, and lost billions in property.

The article is a little short on the discussion of SA and oil. This seems to be at the center the current situation.

We can act like it until people understand the nature of the war. And it isn't about the Allies in Iraq.

They extort millions upon millions fo dollars from the G-8 and still turn around and bomb the cr*p out of our innocent civilians while their own leaders RICH(wasteful) BEYOND wildest dreams live in umpteen gold trimmed palaces and treat their peasants like door mats. Yeah, (sarcasm) that makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Seems to me that I'm paying about $2.25/gal in gasoline. Seems to me that the oil we're wanting is something we're all paying for ... so what's the big deal?

It's not like we're taking anything away from anyone who doesn't want to part with it.

The "oil issue" is just an excuse - anything to divert the real reasons for their insanity.

How so? I think it is exactly as Hanson said and has nothing to do with anything else, as Hanson aptly explained. I agree with Smarti Pants, all else is excuse.

VDH may "get it".

But what about me and thee?

What kind of colossal fools are we?

Pawns of the propagandists agents of Islamo-facists.

Blaming our leaders and each other for these atrocities?

How can he say that India is free of terrorism when the islamists are blowing them up over Kashmir? Uninformed.

I think you're missing the essence of VDH's point about India: the Muslim-Hindu violence is restricted almost exclusively to the disputed Kashmir region. The Islamists are scared to death of attacking the heart of India, knowing that the response from the enraged Hindu nation would be brutal and might even destroy the militant sanctuary of Pakistan.
