A BRITISH Muslim feared to have orchestrated the London bombings which killed 56 was being held in Pakistan last night.
Pakistani intelligence sources said Haroon Rashid Aswad’s phone number was listed on the mobile phones registered to ALL FOUR 7/7 suicide attackers.
Aswad, 35, from Dewsbury, West Yorks, was believed to have been killed fighting with the Taliban against US troops in Afghanistan in 2002.
But he was seized — wearing a belt packed with explosives — during swoops on 150 al-Qaeda terror suspects in Pakistan, according to security sources.
Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed denied Aswad was among those arrested.
But several sources said he was held at a religious school in Sargodha, 90 miles south of Islamabad.
An intelligence source said: “We strongly believe he has links with the bombers.”
Aswad was brought up in the same area of Dewsbury where three of the four bombers came from.
He was assumed to have died when a body carrying his passport was found after a shoot-out with US forces in Afghanistan.
British security sources insisted they had no information to link Aswad directly with the bombers.
But despite their reaction to the arrest, Aswad’s position as a senior figure in the al-Qaeda network began to emerge yesterday.
He was one of nine children and first came to the attention of Western security forces when he attended an al-Qaeda training camp in the US state of Oregon in 1999.
After the shoot-out in Afghanistan, Aswad slipped into Pakistan where he is said to have become a major figure in al-Qaeda.
He is believed to have met Osama Bin Laden and was last night being questioned over his alleged links to the London suicide bombers.
Aswad was picked up during swoops on religious schools infiltrated by al-Qaeda.
Police have spoken to Aswad’s family in the UK to check on his movements, it emerged yesterday.
But relatives at Batley, West Yorks, told officers that they had not heard from him for ten years.

If you really want to be upset, read "The Third Terrorist" by Jayna Davis. I'm finishing it up now. There's a lot of "crap" going on that doesn't smell quite right.
