Senate bill requires illegal immigrants to leave
KPHO ^
Posted on 07/19/2005 6:05:02 PM PDT by Happy2BMe
WASHINGTON A bill introduced today in the U-S Senate would give illegal immigrants up to five years to leave -- before they could return and be in a guest worker program. The sponsors are Senators Jon Kyl of Arizona and John Cornyn of Texas.
The bill faces a July 26th hearing before the Judiciary Committee.
The plan would allow immigrant workers to enter the U-S for two years, followed by a one year break. They could repeat that pattern two more times.
The legislation also increases penalties for employers of undocumented workers and authorizes ten-thousand new agents over five years to investigate employers hiring illegal workers
Immigrants who leave the country within one year would not be fined when applying for re-entry. Those who wait longer to leave would be fined two-thousand dollars for each additional year.

We're overrun here in Michigan as well. The part that worries me is that many of our illegals are from the mideast.

Simple: The law says, or can be written to say, that no automatic citizenship awarded to any baby simply by being born on US soil. The provision of such automatic citizenship is voided if one or both parents are in a state of federal law violation pertaining to immigration, at the time of birth on US soil.

We aren't enforcing the laws we have now. The bills supporters will say that they intend to hire more border patrol agents but they voted against hiring just about two days ago.
I think they should hire more agents, prove they'll enforce the law and then we can talk about the rest of this stuff.

Well, I like the illegals go home part.
I keep hearing how impractical it would be to round up 11 million illegals and send them home, but you really don't need to do that.
Fine employers $20k for EACH illegal employee and upon second offense, one year in prison. That'll dry up the jobs over night. Institute a law that requires state and municipal law enforcement agencies to enforce the immigration laws in order to receive any federal funding. Require schools, hospitals, and fire departments to alert ICE to any suspected illegals, or again, no federal funding.
You'd have 98% back in their third world cesspools inside of six months.

I'm just wondering how many kids could be born inside of 5 years and would that change the status of those families? And you would be wondering the right thing.
It's a nudge in the right direction. The smart thing to do with this if it gets traction would be to barter a vote on this if it includes a rider which clarifies the 14th amendment to disallow citizenship for those born to parents here illegally. Make that a non-negotiable demand, and there might be light at the end of this tunnel.
Having said that, I will say that the devil is in the details. Would have to read up. Personally, I say....go with Inhofe-Tancredo.

Some people believe anything . . US Government to illegals:
"OK - Now you're in trouble! Enough is Enough! We want you out and we want you out NOW, in 24 hours, in 30 days in Five Years. And if you're not out in five years, well then, we're going, we going to... examine further legalization remedies at that time. And this time we mean it!

I love your plan. I believe it would work just as you've laid it out. Unfortunately, I also believe that pretty much nothing short of the 2nd American Revolution or 2nd Civil War will change the Washington DC landscape enough to allow such a great idea to be implemented. We can only hope and pray that our politicians wake up before either of the aforementioned events begin.

You may be dead on with that. It's funny, if you look at all the issues on the table today, I can't think of one serious one that garners as much support across all Americans as doing something about illegal immigration. Why won't someone pick it up and run with it?
Well, we know we're afraid to (and by we I mean R politicians) because we're terrified of being called racists. The D's won't do anything, and honestly, I'm not trying to slime them, but I think liberals instinctively support whatever's worse for the U.S.
Looking into the crystal ball, I have a feeling Hillary will use this as her major issue in '08. Couple it with port and border security, but some catch phrase like "a sensible stance on immigration" and we can get used to saying President Hillary.
I mean, how do we run against that? Say we run Kyl or Brownback or somebody. How are we going to say "Well, we've been in the W/H for the last 8 years, and 20 of the last 28, but now, this time, really, honestly, we're actually going to enforce and uphold the laws we promised to.
This is going to be a big issue in 08.

How about giving them five minutes to leave? They are already in the country illegally. They are already subject to deportation. This bill rewards them for breaking the law.
To: Onelifetogive
but the really bothersome ones come from the Northeast, especially New England..... LOL. We should make them become assimilated, learn the culture and language when they cross the Mason Dixon. Lesson one would include:
1. "you guys" does not include women
2. ketchup is never appropriate with beef cooked in any form except hamburgers, so don't ask for it.
3. it's just chili, not "chili con carne"
4. when someone says they'd like tea, we always mean iced. if we want hot tea (though I don't know why we would) we'll ask for it
5. they're just "trucks", not "pickups" and never "pickup trucks"
6. if you're wearing shoes, then wear your socks
7. it's not "pop" or "soda"; it's always a coke, even when it's Dr. Pepper (which it usually is), Sprite, Root Beer, Big Red, or, well, a Coke.
8. though you'll see salsa in "mild" at the grocery store, there's no reason to buy it; if you must have "mild", then you don't really want salsa; those same jars of "mild" have been in the store since the day the store opened
9. there's no such thing as a "bodega" that is a place of business, except maybe on a farm in South Texas, where it's simply Spanish for "barn" and the only business done there is farm-related.
