U.S., Turkey Condemn Congressman's Remarks (Tancredo)

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Top U.S. and Turkish officials on Tuesday condemned cooments made last week by Rep. Tom Tancredo that the United States could "take out" Islamic holy sites if there was a nuclear attack on America by Muslim fundementalists.

The Colorado Republican refused to apologize Tuesday, telling the Associated Press that his comments had been taken out of context.

U.S. State Department spokesman Adam Ereli called the statements Tancredo made Friday "insulting and offensive." He said Americans "respect the dignity and sanctity of other religions."

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul labeled them irresponsible.

"This was nothing but a fanatic speaking completely personally, irresponsibly and without thought of how far his statements would reach or what kind of problems they would create," Gul said, according to the Anatolia news agency. The Foreign Ministry confirmed Gul's remarks.

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean said Tancredo owed an apology to Muslims around the world.

"Tancredo's statements go against the very message America is trying to send to the world, that the war on terrorism is not a war on Islam." Dean said. "Remarks threatening the destruction of holy sites akin to the Vatican or Jerusalem do nothing to win the hearts and minds of Muslims in the United States or abroard."

I'll demand that apology as well...the day that Muslims around the world apologize for all their anti-American rhetoric.

Maybe he's worried about his own regime being toppled by the potential backlash? Maybe he should work on his own internal problems with Islamic fanaticism.

His remarks seem to have roused the moderate Muslims to speak out against extremists.

Well that seems to be tancredo's forte, giving the islamofascists propaganda points.

We ought to tell Saudi Arabia to stop funding the Islamofascists by the end of August with the threat of blowing up Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and so on. If they don't, we ought to do it to show them we are serious. And we should declare Islam to be an organized criminal activity and NOT a religion.

It's secular because they killed or drove out the dhimmis.

Finally someone put that possibility in their mind. The only problem is Al K-Duh doesn't care about religious sites, unless they are under their jackbooted control. All they really care about is death and destruction, because that is the spirit that drives them.

The nuking of Mecca and other Muslim cities has been discussed even before Tancredo's statements.

Friday, January 7, 2005: Has U.S. threatened to vaporize Mecca?

Tancredo for President 2008/2012.

When they start worrying about our hearts and minds, we'll know that we're winning.

Not when you go off half-cocked like tancredo and give the islamofascists a gift wrapped propaganda point.

This is damage control.

BTW, in World War II Japan's holiest city Kyoto, was spared.
