13 July 2005: King Gyanendra and the Maoist insurgents have agreed for the UN to administer Nepal for a year within which internally-monitored elections will be held, and the scheme presented to UN secretary general Kofi Annan by US secretary of state Condoleezaa Rice was structured by India while the UK and Belgium co-sponsored it.

Under the scheme, Gyanendra will hand over executive powers to the UN, while retaining the office of the constitutional monarchy, and the king gave in after the US threatened dispatch of a multinational force to take over Nepal and return it to democracy, and the Maoists relented coming under extreme pressure from the Royal Nepalese Army.

Nepal is a crappy place. The imprison and torture those of dissenting religious views.

I can't imagine hardly anyone else in the world doing a worse job than has been done, but we are talking about the UN, aren't we?

Nice scenery, but you're right. Very crappy (I got food poisoning in Kathmandu).

The Rana royals and their family are thieves. Aid money is stolen, trekking concessions have kickbacks, etc.

Outside pockets of Kathmandu and Solo-Khumbu, the Nepalese live in near-serfdom conditions.

Is this real or a satire piece? I got completely lost with the first paragraph/sentance (anyone who writes huge one sentance paragraphs like me must be a founding father or a satirist :))
