This is another update to the ongoing saga of Sgt. Zack Richardson as stated here:
Government School --- Soldiers Not Welcome (US Marine banned) and Marine Rejected at School

Dear Friends,

The two special events planned for Marine Sergeant Richardson and the children from Carson Middle School are becoming more special everyday. These events are being held at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation on Monday, July 18th.

In addition to the private presentation at 5:30 pm for the 6th grade students who corresponded with the Marines, we have arranged to have a "HUMVIE" at the 6:30 pm event which is open to the entire public! There will be helmets and flak jackets for all the children to put on and have their pictures taken.

Also, we will be providing gifts for all the children. Both those who attend the private function and any child attending the picnic afterwards. The children attending the private function will receive a gift bag containing a Marine ball cap, a Marine commemorative coin in a display case and a small US flag. There will be a small flag and a Marine ball cap for every child at the picnic! Also, there will be small flags for all the adults attending the picnic.

We will be furnishing the Marines with a gift bag as well. It will contain these same items and a Marine 3'x5' flag, a Marine license plate, a deck of those neat Iraqi playing cards and many more items. We are expecting between 25 and 30 Marines at least, in addition to Sergeant Richardson!

Finally, for the evenings entertainment, Zac Brown has agreed to play at the Picnic Celebration!!!

The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation is going all out for this special occasion. They have even arranged to put many of the Marines up for the evening at the Lodge. Also, the Picnic Celebration and BBQ meal is FREE....compliments of the Ritz-Carlton Lodge!

I am asking all of you to help make this an evening that the children and The US Marines will never forget. I encourage you to join us at the Picnic Celebration at 6:30 pm. Bring your children and your grandchildren for an experience that they will never forget!

How often do any of us get the chance to personally thank the soldiers for defending our freedom while putting their lives at risk everyday.

Let's have a crowd so big that we run out of food......by the way, if you would like to bring a picnic basket of your own to set-up on the lawn that would be fine as well!

The news keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for the school year to start back for Ulrica Corbett, Principal of the Greene County Middle School.

My fellow Americans make me proud.

If you like to thank the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation, please feel free : 706-467-0600 or the public relations coordinator at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge (706) 467-7044 Sorry I don't have an email address at the moment.

BTW - Mercer Reynolds, Chairman and CEO of Reynolds Plantation, is good friends with President Bush, and the President has his own Presidential House (scroll down here: http://www.ritzcarlton.com/resorts/reynolds_plantation/accommodations/default.asp) to stay at when he visits (which he does)

I'm taking my kids, and I am very excited about this!

They have a comments page. No direct email that I can readily find:

Where is the Ritz-Carlton Lodge and when is this taking place? (I noticed the 706 area code so I figure it can not be too far away).

Great things happen in the face of adversity. Here's wishing all the kids and the Marines and other participants a wonderful visit.

Principal Corbett, we are watching.

Is it too much to hope that when school starts again in the fall Ms. Corbett will no longer be in a supervisory position? Actually, she shouldn't even be in the teaching profession.

This has turned out better for the Marines, the kids, their parents and pretty much everyone. Corbett was following the school's policy on visitors, the teacher is the one who broke policy. While I disagree with the way she handled it, there is no reason to crucify the principal. And, as I said, a barbecue at the Ritz with a crowd of Marines and the kids' families is better than a single Marine talking in a classroom.

Reynolds also was in business with Bush when they owned the Texas Rangers together and Reynolds served as Bush's campaign chair (or some title).

Lake Oconee near Greensboro. Take I-20 to Greensboro, south on Ga. 44 about 8 miles.

It's a frustratingly slow process, but we're beating these leftist screwballs one at a time.

Thanks for the directions, but I have to respectively disagree with you. Unless this teacher is a liar the principal let her feelings get in the way of a great learning experience for these students.

Not quite accomplished, apparently - the principal seems to be still employed. This needs to change.

Your first mistake is in thinking that a government school is trying to provide great learning experiences.

It seems clear to me that the school's policy calls for approval for guest speakers. The teacher doesn't claim he had approval, he claims his request for approval was ignored and based on what I've read he readily admits that he told the Marine to come on w/o that approval. There was time and opportunity for him to force the issue by going to the schools superintendent or BOE (which, IIRC, is majority GOP and therefore presumably would have sided with the teacher on this specific topic).

You can disagree with me, but the teacher broke the rules, thereby giving his students another kind of lesson.

The principal handled it poorly, but so did the teacher. And the great learning experience was that adults are capable of acting like children.

I'm so glad to hear of the wonderful celebration that will be taking place in spite (or because) of the principal's hatred for our troops.

My son's class did a project where they enlisted the entire school and sent over 4,000 pencils to schoolkids in Kosovo (one of the teacher's sons is there). They each got a soldier to correspond with. When the teacher's son was home on leave, he came to the class and presented them with a US flag that was flown on their base.

The entire project was absolutely the highlight of the school year.

In OUR school, the kids have posters in the halls that say "God Bless America" and "God Bless our Soldiers." Nobody bats an eye.

I have to wonder. Yes, I don't believe the principal likes GWBush, and loathes the military as an offshoot of him/his adminstration. What I want to know is what she meant by this:

She submitted a written statement to the Herald-Journal in which she stated "My decision not to allow Zach Richardson to speak with the students on Monday came out of my regard for the safety and welfare of our children."

???

But yes, the teacher, Mr. Lund, did not receive permission to have the Marine visit the school.
