A geek, by definition, is "any person considered to be different from others in a negative or bizarre way, as a teenager seen as being awkward, tall, gangling, stupid, brainy or antisocial."
But really, haven't all of us felt that way at one time or another?
Well, a little-known holiday is coming up this Wednesday -- "Celebrate Your Geekness" day -- and I think it's high time the geeks of the world unite in celebrating their individuality!
Who says it is bad to be different? Just think of all the things we would be missing out on without the geeks of the world. Christopher Columbus was considered a geek in his day. And what about Albert Einstein?
Being different means a person is willing to try new things, to think outside the box, to "boldly go where no one has gone before," as Captain Picard of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" would say.
When was the last time you did something, not caring what others might think or say about you? Does your life revolve around what the norm is thought to be?
It is really not bad to be a geek; it is OK to be an individual and embrace your individuality. In fact, I propose that if people were just themselves, with no thought of current fads or popularity, the world would be a much better and happier place.
So, on Wednesday, celebrate your geekness by doing something different, something unique, something you have always secretly wanted to do but just never tried. Celebrate that part of you that has wanted to express itself since you were in third grade.
I am personally going to watch a season of "Star Trek: Voyager" while eating a batch of cookie dough -- just my small contribution to celebrate my geekness.
Do video gamers count as geeks anymore?
Would driving one of these Qualify?
Stupid is, what stupid does. (Famous American thinker :-)
Ah, Revenge of the Nerds.
An article about geeks wouldn't be complete without a Star Trek reference or two...
That'll definitely do it.
When I was growing up, there was a tune called "The In Crowd".
I always said I was in with the Out Crowd. Thank God we aren't all alike.
We know the In Crowd is Outta Site!
(Freedom isn't Free -- costs a buck oh-five)
I'll be in Wisconsin, elbows-deep in a WAN installation and RS upgrade. I'm afraid I have to let my geekness shine just about every weekday.

Does this include "pencil necked geeks"?
