Why Terrorism Works By Alan M. Dershowitz
FrontPageMagazine.com ^ | July 8, 2005 | Alan M. Dershowitz

Posted on 07/09/2005 8:49:55 AM PDT by Nicholas Conradin

Within a day of the horrific multiple bombings in London, the G8 announced a $3B grant to the Palestinian Authority. The symbolism of this connection may be lost on some Westerners, but it clearly sent a powerful message to terrorists and potential terrorists: namely, that terrorism works.

There were no grants announced to the Tibetans, who have been occupied more brutally and for a longer period of time than the Palestinians. The Tibetans, however, have never resorted to terrorism.

The Palestinian Authority, and its leaders, are the godfathers of international terrorism. They developed airplane hijacking into a high art. They invented the high-profile murder of athletes and other prominent public figures. Were it not for their employment of terrorism, the Palestinian cause would today be regarded as the fifth-rate human rights issue that it rightfully is. But because the Palestinian leadership has always used terrorism (from the 1920's on) as the tactic of first resort, their cause has received worldwide recognition.

The primary cause of terrorism is not occupation, humiliation, or desperation. If it were, the Tibetans would be the greatest terrorists. The primary cause of terrorism is that it works. And it works because the craven international community gives into it and rewards it.

It also works because too many Islamic leaders praise it and too few condemn it. Terrorism will continue as long as potential terrorists believe they will benefit from using that tactic.

It only works in the mind of liberals who are their primary target. Remember that it is Conservatives who make the world safe for liberals.

Dershowitz is a communist lawyer. His argument is seductive but bogus. The Tibetans have not resorted to terrorism because they are buddists. And buddism abhors murder and mayhem. The Palestinians use terror because they are muslims. And Islam glorifies murder and mayhem. These obvious facts are lost on the atheist communist Dershowitz.

Agreed. Look at how the PALs have been pandered to, when they should have been wiped from the face of the earth, decades ago. Just one of MANY examples. The free world is at war with Islam -- putting it any other way, is living a lie. As soon as our leaders recognize that, ORGANIZE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, the sooner terrorism and its craftsmen, will vanish. And not until then.

Dershowitz has a moment of clarity.

Maybe he'll come around altogether.

His argument is seductive but bogus.

No it isn't, it's directly on target. Muslim terrorists attack London and the very next day the G8 rewards a terrorist state with billions of dollars without even extracting some public comments from the Palestinian leadership condemning the terrorist acts in London.

When you're right, you're right and Dershowitz here is absolutely right.

There is a really simple reason that terrorism "works". The reason is this. The West does not have the chonies to strike the countries that support terrorists hard enough so that they no longer consider it politically expedient to continue to support terrorists or their agenda.

The West also does not have the Will to remove those in our midst that are potential terrorists. Their perceived rights override my and your safety. An excellent illustration of this is how the TSA checks passengers before an airline flight.

In my mind, the bottom line is that the lawyers are now in charge. Consider the ludicrous case where persons can be on a mountain top firing at American and other combat personnel and we can't fire back because of some perceived imaginary line that was established about 100 years ago. When we have a general state that he likes to kill, they want to relieve him of command. And so on.

We ultimately reap as we sow.

Yes and when they do catch those bombers, guess who will be the very first lawyer over there to make sure they get a fair trial.

When you're right

Absolutely - He is right. I'm so pissed that our name is on this deal as part of the G8 - It's the most criminal thing I've ever hear of. $3b for the terrorists! - How many death warrants did Bush just sign?

All week the MSM focused on climate change and Africa - no indication that this scam was in the works.

I am a bit surprised that Dershowitz wrote this. When I saw his name in the topic headline, I was prepared for a good barf. Nicely surprised.

The problem is, it was on the G8 agenda before the bombing. It was probably better to announce it right away, then wait.
However, they should have reiterated that it had previously been on their agenda and made it clear that it had nothing to do with the bombing, indeed not even the bombing caused them to sway from their original agenda and they'd hope the PA would use the money for the purposes in which it was intended. (something to that affect)

How True. Of course let us not forget why the Tibetans do not have guerrillas or insurgents or freedom fighters. Its because the Communist Chinese DON'T PLAY DAT! Kinder Gentler Compassionate War Fighting, hasn't really taken off in Red China yet.

If it had, the Tibetans would be fighting in the mountains now.

I can agree with both of your arguements. Of course Islam is part of the equation, Muslims have not formed a sect yet that abhors terrorism or is willing to live within the framework of a tolerant West. This will come, but only if the terrorists are hit hard and often.

As to rewards from terrorism. That is a leftist position. The democratic party has sided exclusively with the Palestinians, to the point where Jewish arguements and factual information about the nameless evil that the Palestinians have unleashed goes hardly noticed.

Dershowitz is one of the leftist Jews who has been willing to admit that support for terrorism is wrong, and my guess is he is about to be kicked out of the democratic coalition.
