ROME - Police arrested 142 people in a two-day anti-terrorism security sweep around Milan prompted by the London bombings, the ANSA news agency reported Saturday.

Some 2,000 carabinieri paramilitary police fanned out across the Lombardy region, stepping up patrols around train stations, subways and other sensitive sites, ANSA said, quoting the regional commander of the carabinieri, Gen. Antonio Girone.

Girone said the operation was focusing around Milan as "a possible primary objective of any possible terrorist action," ANSA said. Calls placed to Girone's office weren't immediately returned Saturday.

Of those arrested, 83 were immigrants and authorities issued 52 deportation orders, ANSA said.

The operation was one of the most visible signs of stepped-up security measures around Italy following Thursday's attacks in London and threats that Italy might be targeted as well for its support of the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yeah, I hope that they continue the roundup. And here, also, in the U.S. And the U.K. And Canada. And Mexico.

For starters....

I guess it took a bombing in London for Europe to get serious on the terror front.

Europe better wake up. Radical islamist are immigrating in larger and larger numbers, setting up their own hate communities whereever they settle.

I've read where France doesn't even control the northern part of its own county any longer.

1) Investigate

2) Locate

3) Apprehend

4) Interrogate

5) Execute

Repeat steps 1 through 5 until peace and security are re-established.

Period.

Good. Seems like the Milan judges, prosecutors, and police had spent a lot of time tracking CIA agents who took a dangerous cleric/terrorist off their streets. Maybe it's back to basics.

I believe they already tried and failed with their attempt to assassinate Pope John Paul. Hopefully they won't be successful in a second attempt.

You are right and that was pre-9/11 and pre Iraq. The media has chosen to ignore the dozens of attacks before Iraq so they can keep to their talking points that Iraq has made terrorism worse.

Actually, the clear evidence is that the attacks are decreasing in sophistication and deadliness.

It is still bad that these thugs can do any attacks, so we need to keep up the pressure.

Ol' Ramzi Yousef had every intention of killing Pope John Paul while he was visiting Manila. Thankfully, he had an accident while preparing the bombs. Unfortunately, he escaped arrest at that time.

Wonder where they are going back to?

Definitely a good move ...

Al Queda is at work to fight against that notion:

Go Italy! - Round up the enemy among us!

London, Washington take the example, before 'the religion of peace' attacks again.
